| Presented Annually by Gingold Theatrical Group |
Project Shaw is a monthly staged reading series produced by the Gingold Theatrical Group (GTG), dedicated to presenting the works of George Bernard Shaw as well as plays by his contemporaries and writers influenced by his ideas.
Founded in 2006 by GTG artistic director David Staller, the series serves as a central program of the organization’s mission to promote humanitarian ideals through theatre. The series is known for its script-in-hand “concert readings,” typically presented with minimal staging and featuring professional actors from the New York theatre community.[1]
Project Shaw presents approximately eleven readings annually, generally scheduled on a monthly basis. The programming includes plays by Shaw, as well as works that influenced him or reflect his thematic concerns, including social justice, political discourse, and human rights.
Performances are often staged as benefit events supporting Gingold Theatrical Group's broader activities, including its Off-Broadway productions and new work development programs.
The series has been described as a forum for “intelligent argument” and theatrical exploration, bringing together artists, critics, and audiences in an accessible format.[2]
Project Shaw has been credited with sustaining interest in George Bernard Shaw’s body of work in contemporary American theatre and making rarely produced plays accessible to modern audiences.
