Prof Vikas Sharma is an Indian novelist and professor of English. He is a Professor in the Department of English at Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU) in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, and serves as the general secretary of the Association for English Studies of India (AESI). He has published several novels and academic monographs, and his literary works have been the subject of secondary scholarly studies.

Early life and education

Sharma was born in Pilkhuwa, Hapur district, Uttar Pradesh, India.[1] His father, Chandra Pal Sharma, was a lecturer at R.S.S. Degree College in Pilkhuwa.[1] He is the elder brother of the Hindi poet and politician Kumar Vishwas.[2]

Sharma graduated with a Master of Arts (M.A.) in English from Meerut University (now CCSU). He completed a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) at Dr. Harisingh Gour Central University in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Kumaun University in Nainital. He later received a Doctor of Letters (D.Lit.) in English from Chaudhary Charan Singh University.[3]

Academic career

From June 2014 until May 2018, Sharma served as the Principal and a professor of English at D.A.V. (P.G.) College in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh.[3] In May 2018, he joined the faculty of the Department of English at Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, as a professor, later serving as the Head of the English Department from June 23, 2021, to June 23, 2024.[3]

Sharma was elected President of the Meerut University Teachers Association (MUTA) for the 2017–2019 term and serves as the general secretary of the Association for English Studies of India (AESI).[4] In his capacity as an AESI officer, he has publicly commented on regulatory updates from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and implementation aspects of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 framework.[2][5]

Literary works and reception

Sharma's first novel, Raah Ke Patthar, was published in 2021. His fiction has since been the subject of scholarly books and regional media coverage. In December 2025, The Times of India reported on his presentation regarding contemporary fiction at a literature assembly hosted by Karamat Husain Girls' PG College.[6]

In 2024, Nisha Singh published The Concept of Womanhood in the Novels of Vikas Sharma, a volume evaluating gender representation across his fiction.[7] In 2025, Monika Khurana and Kamal Kant Sharma published Virtues and Vices: The Moral Tug-of-War in Vikas Sharma's Writings, providing a book-length critical examination of his literary works.[8]

Additionally, an assessment of his 2021 novel I.A.S. Today by Sudhir K. Arora and Abnish Singh Chauhan in the literary journal Creation and Criticism noted that the text focuses on conflicts between ethical governance and institutional corruption.[9] His 2025 novel, All Her Fires, depicts favoritism and administrative issues within the Indian higher education system, which was covered in regional reports by Live Hindustan and Dainik Jagran.[10][11] In April 2025, Live Hindustan reported that Sharma received the Sahitya Ratna Award at the Kurukshetra Literary Festival.[12]
