Comment: Overreliant on non-independent sources. Wikipedia's inclusion guidelines require siginificant coverage in independent secondary sources. Guinness World Records are also not generally acceptable as evidence of independent secondary coverage on Wikipedia, see WP:GWR for more info. ~ A412 talk! 22:30, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
Player 1 Services, also known as Player 1, is an American company based in Maryland[1], which primarily transacts in event organization, wholesale distribution of trading cards and card supplies to retail stores, and in retail spaces with buyers and sellers of collectibles.[2]
In 2025, Player 1 reported an estimated annual sales volume of 3,800,000 Pokémon trading cards.[3] It is known for holding the Guinness World Record for the largest collection of different Pokémon cards.[4]
History
Originally founded on February 27th, 2016 as an online store, it formalized as a general partnership with two co-owners in 2020.[5]
Since 2020, the company has engaged in event organizing for card shows and trading card game tournaments.[6]
Player 1 has been featured in news articles including Bloomberg Businessweek, Tokyo Shimbun, and Pokébeach. It has also been on The Match Slip podcast, and Montgomery Municipal Cable.[7][8]
Business Operations
Its authentication and appraisal services focus on the Pokémon Trading Card Game, while its retail element almost exclusively focuses on Pokémon cards, toys, and supplies.[9] Its Maryland headquarters contains a card library of over seven million Pokémon cards sorted by language, set, and rarity.[10]
Its secondary retail focus is on the card games and supplies of other franchises including:[11]
| Franchise: | Retail Sector: |
|---|---|
| Magic The Gathering | Card Game |
| One Piece | Card Game |
| Riftbound | Card Game |
| Lorcana | Card Game |
| Gundam | Card Game |
| Union Arena | Card Game |
| Weiß Schwarz | Card Game |
| Digimon | Card Game |
| Ultra Pro | Supplies and Accessories |
| BCW | Supplies and Accessories |
Events organized by the company include trading card game tournaments, card conventions, and learn-to-play events.[12]
In early 2026, the Maryland headquarters acquired the first floor of their retail and event building. This increased the maximum player seating capacity to over 150, making it one of the largest hosts of regular local card tournaments in the world.[13]
Guinness World Record
On December 31st, 2023, the world record for the largest collection of different Pokémon cards was broken by the co-owner of Player 1, Ben DeGuire. This record was beaten seven months later by Owen Gray and Conner Gray in Essex, United Kingdom, as verified on July 11th, 2024 with 48,339 different Pokémon cards.[14]
On December 31st, 2025, that same world record was again broken by Ben DeGuire, totaling 84,304 different Pokémon cards.[15]
