Peter Kiley is an American brewmaster, winemaker, distiller, and entrepreneur based in Atlanta, Georgia. He is best known as the Brewmaster and Chief Product Officer of Monday Night Brewing, one of the most decorated craft breweries in Georgia and the American South. Under his direction, Monday Night Brewing has earned medals at the Great American Beer Festival, the World Beer Cup, and the U.S. Open Beer Championship, and was named the #2 brewery in the United States by the U.S. Open Beer Championship in 2024.[1] Kiley is also the co-founder of Sneaky Spirits, a craft beverage holding company whose portfolio includes Sneaky Pete Spirits, Pedro Furtivo Tequila, and Yacht Water. He was named to the Atlanta Business Chronicle's 40 Under 40 class in 2024.

Early life and education

Kiley is a native of Atlanta, Georgia, and attended Holy Innocents' Episcopal School in Sandy Springs. He subsequently enrolled at the University of Georgia, where he studied chemistry with the intention of pursuing medical school. He ultimately chose a different path, following family friends into the wine industry in Northern California.[2]

Career

Winemaking

After studying at the University of Georgia, Kiley relocated to Northern California, where he trained as a winemaker in Anderson Valley. He worked as a Harvest Enologist at Breggo Cellars from 2008 to 2010, and as a Winemaker at Rundog Vineyards from 2009 to 2011.[3] He returned to Georgia in 2011 and joined Chateau Elan Winery & Resort as a Winemaker. He also earned his sommelier certification and subsequently worked as Sommelier and Private Events Manager at Vino Venue in Atlanta through 2013. His winemaking background, particularly his experience with barrel aging and fermentation, would later become the defining influence on his approach to craft brewing.[4]

Monday Night Brewing

Kiley joined Monday Night Brewing in 2013, initially in a part-time capacity before being brought on as an assistant brewer in May of that year. He progressed through the roles of Head Brewer and Lab Director, and Head Brewer and Barrel Program Director, before being named Brewmaster in 2018, a title he holds alongside that of Chief Product Officer.[5]

Kiley introduced barrel-aging and other winemaking-inspired techniques to Monday Night's brewing program, an approach he has described as the "winification" of beer.[6] This work led directly to the opening of The Garage in 2017, Monday Night's dedicated barrel-aging and sour beer brewery located in Atlanta's West End neighborhood. Under his creative leadership, Monday Night Brewing expanded from a single Atlanta taproom to a multi-state operation with locations in Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and North Carolina.

Kiley has served as a judge at national and international beer competitions and as a speaker at the Craft Brewers Conference and the World Brewing Congress.[7]

Spirits and entrepreneurship

In 2022, Kiley co-founded Sneaky Spirits alongside his wife Rachel Kiley. The company's first brand, Sneaky Pete Spirits, produces a line of small-batch craft spirits including gin, vodka, bourbon, rye, and rum.[8]

In 2024, Sneaky Spirits launched Pedro Furtivo Tequila, co-founded with Omar Martinez, an Atlanta-based agavero (agave grower) whose family has farmed agave for three generations in Ixtlahuacán del Río, Jalisco, Mexico. The brand name translates to "Sneaky Pete" in Spanish. Pedro Furtivo produces additive-free, 100% blue agave tequila certified by the Tequila Regulatory Council, and is available in Blanco, Reposado (aged six months in a blend of bourbon and Bordeaux barrels), and 1331 Añejo expressions. All three earned medals at the 2025 Agavos Awards, with the Añejo receiving Double Gold.[9][10]

Sneaky Spirits also produces Yacht Water, a ready-to-drink tequila sparkling beverage developed by Kiley in partnership with rapper Lil Yachty and music executive Coach K. The product contains four ingredients: additive-free reposado tequila, sparkling water, sea salt, and fresh juice.[11]

Rachel Kiley serves as CEO and Co-Founder of Sneaky Spirits, while Peter Kiley remains Brewmaster and Chief Product Officer at Monday Night Brewing.

Awards and recognition

Under Kiley's direction as Brewmaster, Monday Night Brewing has earned the following notable competitive honors:

  • Multiple medals at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF), including back-to-back medals in consecutive years, the only Georgia brewery to achieve this distinction during that period[12]
  • Multiple medals at the World Beer Cup
  • Named #2 Brewery in the United States at the 2024 U.S. Open Beer Championship, receiving 4 Gold medals and 4 Bronze medals[13]
  • The "Triple Crown of Beer" in 2023, winning hardware from the GABF, World Beer Cup, and U.S. Open Beer Championship in a single calendar year[14]
  • Named #3 Best Brewery in the Country by Beer Connoisseur in both 2019 and 2020

Kiley's Pedro Furtivo Tequila expressions received the following recognition at the 2025 Agavos Awards:

  • Pedro Furtivo Blanco, Silver Medal
  • Pedro Furtivo Reposado, Gold Medal
  • Pedro Furtivo 1331 Anejo, Double Gold Medal[15]

Kiley was named to the Atlanta Business Chronicle's 40 Under 40 class in 2024.[16]

Philanthropy

Kiley serves on the board of PAWKids, a community hub in Atlanta's Grove Park neighborhood focused on supporting local residents, and has been involved in anti-hunger initiatives across the Atlanta metropolitan area.[17]

In April 2024, Kiley co-founded The 404 Fund alongside Brandon Butler, founder of Atlanta media company Butter.ATL. Created in partnership with the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, The 404 Fund is a donor-advised fund with a mission to support the city of Atlanta through scholarships and grants, youth education and employment initiatives, housing and food insecurity services, and mental health programs. Its launch was timed to coincide with "404 Day," an annual celebration of Atlanta's culture held each April 4, referencing the city's original area code.[18]

To support The 404 Fund on an ongoing basis, Monday Night Brewing launched 404 Atlanta Lager, a beer brewed at exactly 4.04% ABV, with 4.04% of net proceeds donated directly to the fund.[19]

The 404 Fund is part of a broader 404 Collective that also includes Atlanta Influences Everything, T.I.'s Trap Music Museum, and Finish First Marketing Agency. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens praised the initiative at the collective's inaugural 404 Day scholarship gala in 2024.[20]
