Peter Devonald is a British screenwriter and poet known for his contributions to children's television animation and short films, as well as his acclaimed contemporary poetry. [1] [2] [10]

Devonald's screenwriting career includes work on the Children's Bafta-nominated animated series Those Scurvy Rascals [28], alongside numerous short films that screened at international festivals such as Venice, Encounters, and BFI London, earning awards including Best Drama in New York and Best Film at Kyiv Molodist. [1] [2] He has also served as a producer and script editor on various projects, with his films appearing in over 120 festivals and achieving recognition from organizations such as Virgin Media and the British Animation Awards. Following a period of chronic illness [21], Devonald returned to poetry, publishing widely in journals including Dreich, London Grip [6], and Door Is A Jar, while securing multiple awards and placements such as the Loft Books Best Poem, Waltham Forest, and Heart of Heatons prizes, along with nominations for the Forward Prize and Best of the Net. Awards

Peter Devonald has received awards and recognition for his work in screenwriting and poetry. In screenwriting, his short films have been selected for over 150 film festivals and have earned more than 50 awards, including a Gold Remi Award at WorldFest Houston in 2014 for an animated short in which he served as writer.[1] He was one of the writers for the children's television series Those Scurvy Rascals, which received a Children's BAFTA nomination in 2006.[1]

In poetry, Devonald won the Waltham Forest Poetry Competition in 2022 for his poem "Kindness Epidemic".[29] He also won the Heart of Heatons Poetry Award in 2021 and 2023, and was joint winner of the FofHCS Poetry Award in 2023 which lead to his poem being put up at Heaton Chapel Station.[2]
