Draft:Peter Calver

Peter Robert Calver (born 1950) is a British entrepreneur, software publisher and genealogist. He is best known as a co-founder of the early British software company Supersoft and as the founder of the genealogy networking website LostCousins[1].

Early career

In 1978, Calver co-founded Supersoft, one of the earliest British companies to publish software for home computers. [2]The company initially developed and published software for systems such as the Commodore PET before expanding into video game publishing. Supersoft later acquired the assets of Audiogenic Limited forming Audiogenic Software Limited[3]. Under the Audiogenic brand, the company released a number of commercially successful sports and arcade-style games during the 1980s and 1990s.

Video game industry

Through his involvement with Supersoft and Audiogenic, Calver published numerous video games. According to the video game database MobyGames, he is credited on multiple titles, including Emlyn Hughes International Soccer and Brian Lara Cricket.[4] These games contributed to Audiogenic’s reputation as a prominent British publisher of sports video games during this period. Many of the company’s early titles are catalogued in industry archives, reflecting its active role in the UK software scene of the 1980s.[5]

Genealogy and LostCousins

After reducing his involvement in the video game industry, Calver founded LostCousins, a genealogy-focused networking website designed to help family historians make connections using shared census and historical record references. The LostCousins concept was launched in the early 2000s and has since developed an international user base.

Calver continues to be actively involved in the operation of LostCousins and regularly publishes newsletters discussing genealogy research techniques and developments within the family history community. His work and ideas have been referenced by independent family history publications, including society journals.[6]

Public speaking

Calver has been invited to speak at genealogy events in the United Kingdom. In 2025, he delivered a presentation titled "It's NOT about finding cousins!" at an event organised by the Family History Federation, an umbrella organisation representing family history societies across the UK.[7]

Business activities

According to official records held by Companies House, Calver has served as a director of several companies, including Lost Cousins Ltd, Supersoft Ltd, and Audiogenic Software Ltd.[8]
