The Perumpallam River is a river flowing through Erode district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a tributary of the Bhavani River, which in turn is a major tributary of the Cauvery River. The river plays an important role in local irrigation and agriculture in the Perumpallam river basin.[1][2]
Course
The Perumpallam River originates in the western parts of Erode district and flows generally eastward before joining the Bhavani River. Along its course, the river passes through agricultural regions where its waters are used for irrigation through traditional and modern diversion structures.
Tributaries
The Perumpallam River is fed by small seasonal streams and drainage channels within its basin. These tributaries contribute to river flow primarily during the monsoon season.
Irrigation
Water from the Perumpallam River is utilized for irrigation through anicuts and channels constructed along its course. Structures such as the Perumpallam Anicut regulate and divert water to support agricultural activities in surrounding villages.
Administration
The river and its associated irrigation infrastructure are managed by the Tamil Nadu Public Works Department under the state’s water resources management system.
