Sardar Partap Singh Wasal (died 1979) was an Indian independence activist, freedom fighter, and social worker from Punjab, India. He was heavily involved in anti-colonial revolutionary networks in Punjab and dedicated his life to national public service and regional social welfare.
Early Life and Location
Partap Singh Wasal belonged to the historic town of Hariana, situated in the Hoshiarpur district of Punjab, India. He spent his life operating from this region, which served as the hub for his later social and political activism.
Freedom Movement and Revolutionary Associations
During the struggle for Indian independence, Wasal was an active participant in revolutionary circles. He worked closely alongside several prominent regional leaders and revolutionaries of the early 20th-century freedom movements, most notably:
- Kartar Singh Sarabha (the prominent leader of the Ghadar Mutiny)
- Pandit Jagat Ram (a leading Ghadar Party member who also hailed from the Hoshiarpur district)
- Baba Harnam Singh Tundilat (a celebrated revolutionary poet and Ghadar activist)
Through these associations, Wasal contributed significantly to anti-colonial resistance efforts in the Punjab region.
Post-Independence and Social Work
Following India's independence in 1947, Wasal transitioned into a prominent social worker, dedicating his efforts to the development and welfare of the communities in Hoshiarpur and Hariana.
During his later years, he maintained a personal friendship with Giani Zail Singh, a prominent political figure who later served as the Chief Minister of Punjab and the 7th President of India.
In recognition of his lifetime sacrifices and active participation in the Indian independence movement, Wasal was honored by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who awarded him the prestigious Tamra Patra (Bronze Plaque) official recognition.
Death and Legacy
Wasal passed away in 1979. His family continued his commitment to public welfare. His son, Jagjit Singh 'Komal' (1942–2010), followed in his footsteps, working extensively as a respected educator and social worker in Hariana. Komal also attained recognition as a prolific Punjabi poet, ghazal writer, and satirist.
