History and Launch
The Oppo A3s was released in July 2018. In Malaysia, it arrived on 19 July with a price tag of RM599, making it a very common sight in local phone shops during that year.[1] It was one of the first truly cheap phones to use a "notch" display, which was a big trend at the time.
While the base model had 2 GB of RAM, Oppo eventually brought out a 3 GB version later in the year because users wanted better performance for apps and games.[2]
Design and Features
The phone has a 6.2-inch screen and is built with a plastic frame and back. It was sold in Red and Dark Purple colors. A major missing feature was the fingerprint scanner; instead, it relied on a basic "Face Unlock" software or a standard PIN code for security.[3]
The battery is one of its most noted parts, with a 4230 mAh capacity. In 2018, this was considered very large for an entry-level phone, and it used a microUSB 2.0 port for charging rather than the newer USB-C standard.[4]

The Oppo A3s was officially announced in July 2018. It was released first in India on 15 July 2018, priced at ₹10,990.[5] Shortly after, it launched in Malaysia on 19 July 2018 for RM599[6] and in the Philippines on 28 July 2018 for ₱6,990.[7]
The device was marketed as the "Selfie Expert and Leader" in the budget segment. In some markets, a higher-spec variant with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage was released later in 2018 and early 2019 to meet demand for better multitasking.[2]
Hardware and Software
The Oppo A3s is powered by a Snapdragon 450 chipset and features a 6.2-inch "Super Full Screen" display with a notch.[4] It was noted for its 4230 mAh battery, which was significantly larger than many competitors at its price point.
The phone launched with ColorOS 5.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. It features "AI Beauty 2.0" for its 8 MP front-facing camera.[4] Unlike the related Oppo A5, the A3s does not include a physical fingerprint scanner, relying instead on software-based face unlock.[3]
