Comment: The lead section is entirely unsourced, article needs much more information about the software's history. More sourcing is also needed, WD seems to lack an editorial policy, and I'm unsure about TechCrunch. msk 20:28, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
Comment: I am re-creating this article in order to reflect the current state of the software. Acknowledging that it was deleted in 2015 for non-notability, the project has evolved in the decade since, and hopefully merits re-evaluation. Kareeser 19:10, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
Comment: In accordance with Wikipedia's Conflict of interest guideline, I disclose that I have a conflict of interest regarding the subject of this article. Kareeser 19:05, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
NodeBB is a free, open-source, and federated forum software powered by Node.js. It supports multiple database backends (Redis, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL), and supports real-time connectivity through socket.io.
Created in 2013 by Andrew Rodrigues, Baris Usakli, and Julian Lam, the project was started as an alternative to traditional bulletin board systems like phpBB or vBulletin.
History
In 2025, NodeBB announced native ActivityPub integration with its release of v4.0.0.[1] This version allowed for communication with other decentralized networks such as Mastodon and Lemmy.[2][3]
