Meg Elizabeth Anne Smith (born 19 June, 1999), is an American singer-songwriter. She has released the EPs American In Paris, Rom Com Pop, and The Gospel According to Meg Smith. She served as the opening act for Molly Grace on her Blush tour and Zolita on her Queen of Hearts Tour. She most recently released her debut album, Disco Dystopia.

Smith began songwriting at the age of 12 and playing shows around LA when she was 14.^[1] In middle school, she taught herself how to play the guitar, and would spend every day after school writing songs on her ukelele, as she was a member of her middle school's Ukulele Club.^[2] At the age of 15, she and her mom took a batch of brownies and a CD full of demos to every major pop radio station in California, but was rejected by all of them.^[3] Smith released the song and music video "Girls Like You" exclusively to YouTube in 2016.

Smith released her debut EP in 2020, featuring 4 songs including her debut single "Cool 4 U." The EP was inspired by an era of self-discovery she had studying abroad in London and traveling to cities like Paris and Amsterdam.^[2]

On August 21, 2020, Smith released the single "Cross My Heart I Hope U Die" after being broken up with on Halloween and deciding to cast a spell on her ex.^[4][5] It was made the theme song for the LGBTQ+ vampire TV-series Ezra, and was also featured in season two of the Netflix teen dramedy Ginny & Georgia.^[6] In 2023, Smith collaborated with Chandler Leighton to release a dark-pop inspired remix of the song.^[5]

Smith's 2023 4-track extended play Rom Com Pop was directly inspired by rom com films of the early 2000s. Smith was inspired by "guitar-driven pop music with very big emotions," and wanted to a create an EP that felt like the soundtrack to a movie.^[3]

In 2024, Smith began using religion as a metaphor for her music and began incorporating biblical iconography into her songs and style, first sporting angel wings and a halo when opening for Baby Queen. The film and theatrical inspirations first seen in Rom Com Pop returned, as Smith mentioned classic movies like White Christmas, Holiday Inn and Singin’ in the Rain as influences for the fashion in her extended play, The Gospel According To Meg Smith.^[7] Smith directed "The Gospel According To Meg Smith ... The Short Film" with Mich Page. The film follows an angel getting kicked out of heaven, and having to perform a good deed to be allowed back.

On June 13, 2025, Smith released her single "Girls Just Wanna Be Famous," a synth-pop track dedicated her mom and the grueling chase for fame.^[8] She went on to release the four more singles, "Dive Bar Opera," "God Damn Baby," "Winner," and "Carlos, Get In The Car," until her debut album, Disco Dystopia, was released on November 7, 2025. Smith chose the name "Disco Dystopia," for the album as it felt "authentic and fun, but not too heavy."^[9]

Smith's music has been described as a blend of pop and alternative genres, and has been praised for her witty, diary-like lyrics.^[10][11]She has cited Hannah Montana, The Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift, and Hillary Duff as influences, and her vocals have been described as wispy and folk-like.^[12][1] Known for her camp-like look made up of pink eyebrows, angel wings, and a halo on top, she has been described as the “next Chappell Roan.”^[13] Stylistically, Smith appreciates Lady Gaga's eye for balancing visuals and aesthetics along with the music. She also cites The Last Dinner Party as an inspiration.^[14]

Smith was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and later moved to New York City to attend the Clive Davis Institute at NYU, from which she graduated in 2021.^[15] After college, she worked at a nannying job by day and played shows at night, describing herself as Hannah Montana.^[16] Smith wrote her 2025 single "Girls Just Wanna Be Famous" for her mom, a professional dancer who chased fame.^[8]
