Maleesha Sewmini Uduwara (born Sri Lanka) is a Sri Lankan film and television actress, costume designer, and assistant director. She made her cinematic debut in the 2026 film Father.
Early life and education
Maleesha studied in the Commerce stream for her Advanced Level examinations. She later pursued acting at the Impas institute under the guidance of Saddhamangala Sooriyabandara and received professional training from veteran director Prasanna Mahagamage.
She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Business Management (Honours) degree at a SIBA Campus Sri Lanka in Pallekele, Kandy.[1]
Career
Maleesha began her acting career with a minor role in the television series Kolam Kuttama. Her entry into the film industry occurred through Susanga Kahandawala, who introduced her to director Janaka Liyanage as a costume designer for the film Kotakethana. During the production, she was cast in a role, marking her first filmed performance, though the movie remains unreleased.
Through Dilrukshi Weeraparakrama, she secured a role in the film Father (2026), where she played the character of Desmond's younger sister.
In addition to acting, Maleesha has established herself as a technical professional in the industry:
- Costume Design: Worked on the television dramas Andare and Ahas.
- Assistant Direction: Served as an assistant director for Hith Athara Histhan and during the latter stages of Sasankara.
