Mainsail Partners is a software-focused growth equity investment firm[1] that has offices in Austin, TX and San Francisco, CA[2][3].

History

Mainsail Partners was founded in 2003 by Gavin Turner and Jason Payne.[2] As of August 2025, the firm had made more than 100 platform and add-on investments[4] and it had raised seven flagship funds. The latest flagship fund was closed in May 2025 at its hard cap of $1.535 billion.[5][6]

Business Model

Mainsail Partners primarily invests in bootstrapped business-to-business (B2B) software companies.[2][7] As stated on the firm's website, the firm typically makes $10M to $75M equity investments in software companies in the United States or Canada that are founder-owned and growing. [8] In a 2024 profile of associate general counsel Erin Sedloff, Modern Counsel reported that Mainsail also provides operational assistance in areas that include talent, sales, marketing, technology, legal, and finance, aiming to share common business practices and offer direct support to portfolio companies.[9] The firm also helps the companies it invests in incorporate AI into their products and improve customer success.
