M. R. Baburam (1937–2011) was an Indian artist and exhibition designer from Kochi, Kerala. He was the son of Kerala artist Mattappilly Raman and the brother of sculptor M. R. D. Dattan. He is known for designing the Kerala State Film Awards statuette and for founding Pavilions & Interiors (India) Pvt. Ltd. in 1972.[1]
Education
Baburam studied at St. Albert's College, Ernakulam. He graduated with a gold medal in painting and sculpture from the Government College of Fine Arts, Chennai in 1964.[1]
Work
Baburam taught at the Cochin School of Arts, founded by his father Mattappilly Raman, and later became its principal.[1]
In 1969–70, he designed the statuette for the Kerala State Film Awards. The statuette depicts a woman in a dance pose and represents Kerala's artistic identity.
In 1972, he founded Pavilions & Interiors (India) Pvt. Ltd. He designed the Kerala Pavilion for the first India International Trade Fair in New Delhi in 1972, which received the Gold Medal. [1] [2]
In 1991, he received the National Award for Excellence in Handicrafts.[1]
