Draft:London Firebird Orchestra

Established in 2012 with Dame Judi Dench[1] as Patron, London Firebird Orchestra[2] is an orchestra based in central London. It helps young musicians at the start of their careers. It comprises recent graduates and current students of the Royal College of Music, Royal Academy of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. The players collaborate intercollegiately, performing in live orchestral concerts and outreach projects to gain experience.[3]

The orchestra plays regularly at its home venue St George’s Hanover Square (“Handel’s Church”) in central London – and has performed several times SJE Arts in Oxford and Kings Place in London.[4] In March 2026, the orchestra performed at St Johns Waterloo for the first time.[5] Past concerts have taken place at Royal Pump Room in Bath, the Royal Festival Hall[6] and the Queen Elizabeth Hall.

Conductors George Jackson[7] and Michael Thrift[8] regularly perform with the orchestra. The violinist Yury Revich has appeared as a soloist several times.[9]

It is one that pianist and conductor Mare Corbett-Weaver has been aware of and has set out to rectify by setting up, in partnership with Austrian conductor Achim Holub, the London Firebird Orchestra. With its first season complete, the fiery creation does seem to have lift-off: all four of the initial concerts were sold out and the diary for 2012/13 is already satisfyingly busy.
