LiveVoice is an Austrian software (SaaS) company specializing in real-time audio transmission and live language translation.[1] The software was originally developed with the idea of offering a digital alternative to traditional analog interpretation systems, allowing users to access live audio via their own smartphones on the app or web browser.[2]
Over time, its application areas expanded to include remote interpretation for on-site, hybrid, and online events,[3] as well as AI-based live translation, which was introduced in 2024. Additional use cases include guided tours, audio description,[2] and silent conferencing.[4]
History
LiveVoice originated as a project in 2016. The founders are Johannes Wigand, Alexander Pöll, Sebastian Pöll, Christian Tessarek, and Thomas Krajacic.[4] The product was first released in 2019 as part of the web agency INFOUND, owned by Alexander Pöll.[5] In 2021 the LiveVoice GmbH was officially founded and is headquartered in Salzburg, Austria. Johannes Wigand serves as the company’s chief executive officer.[4]
LiveVoice operates internationally, with customers in over 100 countries, and reportedly generates the majority of its revenue outside Austria.[2]
Product and features
LiveVoice provides a software for real-time audio transmission and language translation, designed to support multilingual communication and accessibility at live events. The platform enables human interpreters to provide real-time interpretation, either on site or remotely, and also offers AI-powered translation in over 65 languages.[6][7] Additionally, the system can generate live captions and audio descriptions to assist hearing- and visually-impaired participants.[8]
Use cases
Language interpretation with human interpreters: LiveVoice allows events to be interpreted in real time by professional human interpreters. They can work on site or work fully remote (RSI - Remote Simultaneous Interpretation).[9]
AI Voice Translation: The platform offers AI-powered live translation, which translates the spoken content into other languages in real time.[10]
Live AI captions and translated subtitles: LiveVoice can generate automatic live subtitles (closed captions) for spoken content as well as AI translated subtitles.[10] These can be displayed on smartphones or large screens as lower thirds. AI translation is possible in 67 languages.[10]
Guided Tours: The software can deliver live audio commentary for guided tours, allowing participants and tour guides to access the tour by their own smartphones.[1]
Silent conferencing: Silent conferences are events that do not use loud speakers but attendees listen via headphones. It is possible to transmit multiple audio channels to attendees’ devices simultaneously.[11]
Audio description: The platform can provide audio descriptions of visual content, supporting accessibility for visually impaired participants.[2]
Event Types
LiveVoice has been used in a variety of events to support multilingual communication and accessibility. These include conferences and corporate meetings,[3] sports and large-scale events,[4] guided tours,[2] religious services (church services), and accessibility-focused events.[8] Features applied at these events include real-time interpretation, AI-powered translation, audio commentary, live captions, audio description for visually impaired participants, and live video for sign language.
Events
Motorsports races at Red Bull Ring: Audio description and live commentary during Formula 1, MotoGP, and DTM races, including live transcription for hearing-impaired visitors.[12][13]
OMR Festival: Language interpretation with on-site interpreters, live podcast recordings, and live audio transmission of concerts for overflow audiences.[14]
Web Summit: Language interpretation across multiple stages using remote human interpreters at events in Lisbon, Rio, and Qatar.[15]
