Line8 is a Singapore-based company that designs and manufactures modular power track systems. Founded in December 2014 by Dr Kenneth Ong, Eddy Ong, and Kevin Lim, the company produces power track systems that are designed, engineered, and manufactured in Singapore.[1] As of 2025, Line8 reports that its products have been installed in over 80,000 homes in Singapore and are distributed across more than 10 countries worldwide.[2]

Background and founding

The origins of Line8 trace back to 2000, when Eddy Ong began developing power rail concepts through his work in industrial automation. In 2004, Eddy founded ASL Power (S) Pte Ltd, which became the principal distributor of Eubiq, one of the first modular power track systems introduced in Singapore.[1]

Line8 Pte Ltd was incorporated in Singapore in December 2014 by Dr Kenneth Ong, Eddy Ong, and Kevin Lim. Dr Kenneth Ong, who holds a doctorate in Business Management, previously founded Reactive Systems (later rebranded as Reactive Corporation Pte Ltd) in 2000 and Twenty4frames Photography in 2009.[3] Kevin Lim is an electrical engineering graduate of Nanyang Technological University.[1]

The company's founding vision was to engineer a safer, more flexible, and more technologically advanced power track system. The founders had originally planned a six-month development timeline with starting capital of S$300,000, but encountered significant challenges in developing new materials and safety technologies. In 2017, the company faced a setback when a business partner was found to have misappropriated sales leads and the company's customer database, leading to the loss of most of its staff. The three original founders subsequently rebuilt the business independently.[1]

Line8 Global Pte Ltd was later incorporated to support international expansion efforts.

Products

Line8 manufactures a range of modular power track systems across several product lines. According to the company, all products are manufactured in-house at its Singapore facility, encompassing aluminium extrusion, conductor machining, injection moulding, surface finishing, and quality inspection. Tracks are available in 11 hand-applied surface finishes.[4]

Product lines

  • Model R Series — a recessed-profile track designed to install flush into carpentry or walls.
  • Model S Series — a surface-mount track for walls and backsplashes.
  • Model SL Series (Surface Light) — combines power delivery with an integrated accessory rail supporting hooks, bars, and pegboards. Available in standard, natural white LED (-w), and RGBCCT smart LED (-rgb) variants.
  • Model TL Series (Triangle Light) — a triangular-profile track designed for desktop edges, under-cabinet mounting, and wall corners. Available in the same three lighting variants as the SL Series.

Adaptor ecosystem

Line8 operates a plug-and-play adaptor ecosystem compatible across all track models. Adaptors include standard and high-power sockets, a 65W gallium nitride USB-C charging adaptor (CHG-65 GaN USB Charger), a triple-layer surge protector (Line8 Protect, rated up to 13,500A), a QHD surveillance camera (sKope Smart IoT Camera), an ambient light adaptor integrating a millimetre-wave radar sensor for motion detection (eKlipse-SENSE), a zero-flicker CSP-LED lighting module (eKlipse Ambient Light Adaptor), and multimedia adaptors including HDMI and CAT6 modules.[4]

Key technologies

  • Triple Redundancy Safety (TRS): A patented three-layer safety system comprising a child-safe push-pull switch, a lock-and-key engagement mechanism, and an active grounded aperture shield. The system is designed to keep the track electrically inactive unless a correctly oriented adaptor is fully engaged.
  • Tap-off connection: A patented bus-bar mechanism enabling multiple power access points from a single track installation, without the overloading risks associated with conventional multi-plug extension strips.
  • Simultaneous AC and DC distribution: An asymmetrical electrical core designed to distribute mains AC power and low-voltage DC (12V/24V) simultaneously along the same track, supporting smart lighting, IoT sensors, and automation systems.
  • Zero standby power: A fully mechanical design with no electronic components in the track itself, resulting in zero standby power consumption.

Conductor contacts are machined from a single piece of phosphor bronze. Track housings use high-performance thermoplastics including glass-fibre reinforced PBT and Xyron conductor carriers, rated V0 for fire resistance.[4]

Patents and certifications

Line8's core system received patent granted status in 2017 (PCT/SG2015/050203; WO 2017/007420 A1).[5] As of 2025, the company reports holding 11 patents worldwide.[2]

Line8 products are certified to SS241 (Singapore standard for plugs and socket-outlets), IEC61534 (International Electrotechnical Commission standard for powertrack systems), SIRIM (Malaysian certification), GMARK (Middle East certification), and RCM (Australian regulatory compliance mark).[4]

Recognition and media coverage

Line8 has received the SME 500 Award, recognising it among Singapore's notable small and medium enterprises, and the Singapore Good Design Mark, awarded by the Design Business Chamber Singapore.[3]

On 15 December 2020, Line8 was featured in news broadcasts across five major Mediacorp television channels, covering Singapore's English, Malay, Chinese, and Tamil broadcast audiences, including Asia Tonight on CNA, Berita on Suria, News 5 Tonight on Channel 5, a programme on Channel 8, and Seithi on Vasantham.

In April 2019, i-Weekly (新明周刊), a Chinese-language weekly magazine published by SPH Media, published a two-page editorial feature on Line8.[6]

In August 2023, Vulcan Post published a feature on Line8's founding story and growth journey.[1]

Line8 power tracks have been featured in home tour articles published by The Straits Times, Home & Decor Singapore, 8Days, and other media outlets, including coverage of homes belonging to Night Owl Cinematics co-founders Ryan Tan and Sylvia Chan, social media personality Aiken Chia, and singer-songwriter Derrick Hoh.[7][8][9][10]
