Leon Norman Ledohowski, OM (March 15, 1944 - August 4, 2025), better known as Leo Ledohowski was a Canadian businessman who was known for founding the hotel chain Canad Inns.
Early life
Ledohowski was born on March 15, 1944 in Winnipeg to Walter Ledohowski (1916-1987) and Anne Ledohowski (1923-2005, née Zasitko). Ledohowski grew up in Poplarfield, Manitoba, later moving to Broadview and Yorkton, Saskatchewan. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor's degree in both Art and Commerce, later attending McMaster University and graduating with a Master of Business Administration degree.[2]
Career
Ledohowski founded Canad Inns, a hotel chain in Manitoba, in the 1970s[3]
Ledohowski served on the Manitoba Hotel Association for 25 years and on the board of the Hotel Association of Canada for 20 years.[3]
Death
Ledohowski died on August 4, 2025 in Winnipeg at the age of 81. As of his death, he was still the owner and president of Canad Inns[4], which operated ten locations at the time.[3]
His death was mourned by Obby Khan, the Leader of the Opposition in Manitoba, Mayor of Winnipeg Scott Gillingham, alongside employees and hoteliers.[3]
Achievements, awards and recognition
During his life, Ledohowski received a Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002, a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012, and a Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal in 2022.[2]
Ledohowski also received a Distinguished Service Award from the University of Manitoba and a FCMA designation from the Certified Management Accountants of Canada in 2003. He was later inducted into the Order of Manitoba in 2022.[2]
He was awarded with a Shevchenko Medal award in 2010 by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress[3]
