The King's Union

The King's Union is a debating society in the city of London, England, whose membership is drawn entirely from King's College London (KCL) . Founded in 2025, it is an example of a and is widely considered as one of the world's most prestigious private students' societies. The King's Union exists independently from the university[1] and is distinct from the King's University Student Union as an unratified society. The Society, if ratified, will become affiliated with the King's College London Students' Union in September 2026.

History

The King's Union was founded in September 2025 and acts as a separate society that promotes free speech, intellectual engagement, and high‑profile debate on contemporary political, cultural, and philosophical issues. Drawing inspiration from other historic debating unions, such as the Oxford and Cambridge Unions, which have long traditions of fostering public discourse and hosting prominent guests, the society quotes its aim as cultivating critical thinking and rhetorical skills among its members.[2]

Organisation

The King’s Union Society is entirely student‑led, with an executive committee of 5 responsible for programming, speaker invitations, event logistics, and membership engagement. The roles on said committee include President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and a Press Officer.[3]
