Kefron is an Irish private company that provides records and information management services and software solutions. Founded in 1989 and headquartered in Dublin, Ireland.[1][2][3]

History

Kefron was established in 1989 as National Self Storage, initially providing document storage services in Dublin, with its first records center located on Fosters Avenue. By 1994, it rebranded as Filestores and opened an additional records center on Camden Row, followed by another facility in Blackhall Place in 1998.[3][4]

In 2000, the company extended its shredding services to Northern Ireland. In the following year, it opened a purpose-built records centre in Park West, Dublin, and by 2002 had established an additional facility in Kilkenny. During this period, the company expanded into archive consulting services and made acquisitions including Arcane Datastore and Scan Image Services.[4][5]

Later in 2011, the company rebranded as Kefron, with the name derived from founders Michael Kearns and Tom Hefferon. Following this, the company increased its focus on digital information management. In 2013, Kefron introduced a cloud-based accounts payable (AP) invoice automation solution, referred to as Kefron AP.[3] With this, the company expanded its operations and service reach to the United Kingdom, establishing partnerships and pursuing strategic acquisitions to enhance its product offerings and market presence. Subsequent acquisitions, including Evolution, a software development company, and Lightspeed Scanning Services in the United Kingdom in 2014, supported the company's expansion in digital services and automation technologies. Kefron later expanded its UK operations with the acquisition of DataStor in London in 2018 and the opening of a London office.[1][2][6]

In 2019, Kefron partnered with AccountsIQ to integrate its accounts payable automation software with cloud-based accounting systems for small and medium-sized enterprises. The collaboration was part of a €1 million investment to support the company's digital solutions, particularly for secure document management and data protection in line with global security standards.[7][8][9] In the following year, the company collaborated with Sovos to support electronic invoicing compliance frameworks across multiple jurisdictions and entered into a partnership with Exclusive Networks related to cybersecurity and digital document management initiatives.[10][11][12]

In 2022, The Dublin Gazette has recognized Kefron as one of Ireland's Best-Managed Companies, acknowledging its contributions to digital document management and operational resilience.[13] In 2024, Kefron entered into an agreement with Datapac for the provision of server and data storage infrastructure.[1][14]

As of 2026, Kefron provides a range of information management and outsourcing services and also develops software solutions that incorporate automation technologies for document handling and financial processes.[12][5]
