Overview
Kalmbach Feeds, Inc. is a U.S.-based animal feed manufacturer headquartered in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Founded in 1963 by Milton and Ruth Kalmbach, the company produces and distributes nutritional products for livestock, poultry, horses, and wildlife. The privately held company has expanded its operations across the United States through acquisitions and facility investments, including a $12 million expansion in 2019 and the acquisition of Mississippi-based Ware Milling in 2023. [1]
History
Founding and Early Growth
Kalmbach Feeds was established in 1963 by Milton and Ruth Kalmbach in Wyandot County, Ohio. Milton, a poultry nutritionist, had a vision of a new way to provide better feed and service, so the company began by serving poultry customers in the region by direct truckload. The company steadily expanded its product offerings and geographic reach, focusing mainly on bulk feeds directly to farms.[2]
In the early 1990s, Kalmbach Feeds installed a bagging system and began selling bagged feeds through retail stores.
In 2003, Kalmbach Feeds joined the Cooperative Research Farms (CRF)[3], a research consortium of animal feed manufacturers.[4]
In 2004, Kalmbach Feeds completed a textured feed production facility.
In 2007, the MPK Memorial Complex (Named for Milton P. Kalmbach) was completed in Crawford Township, Wyandot County.
Modern Expansion
In 2019, Kalmbach Feeds announced a $12 million expansion of its Upper Sandusky manufacturing facilities to accommodate increased demand.[5] The expansion reflected the company’s continued growth within the animal nutrition industry.[1]
Acquisitions
Kalmbach Feeds has pursued strategic acquisitions to expand its market presence and production capabilities. In 2019, the company acquired Antler King, a wildlife nutrition brand. [6]
In 2023, Kalmbach Feeds acquired Ware Milling, a Mississippi-based animal feed manufacturer. The acquisition allowed Kalmbach to expand its production capacity and strengthen distribution networks throughout the southeastern United States.[7]
Products and Manufacturing
Facilities
Kalmbach Feeds operates modern manufacturing facilities with advanced automation and quality control systems. In 2018, the company opened an updated feed manufacturing facility in Upper Sandusky, OH.[8] The expansion included a 180-foot-tall slipform concrete tower and 35,000 square feet of animal feed manufacturing and processing space. [9]
In 2020, construction was completed on a 42,300 square foot warehouse addition, creating new jobs and contributing approximately $1.2 million in new annual payroll. [10]
In 2023, the city council of Dublin, OH, approved a five-year lease of a Dublin facility to Kalmbach Feeds, aiming to create 18 new marketing, finance, and logistics jobs. [11]
In 2024, Kalmbach Feeds announced plans to invest over $12 million in additional warehouse and distribution expansion in Crawford Township, near its Upper Sandusky, OH, operations.[12] The project includes the construction of a new 100,000-square-foot warehouse and aims to create 40 more jobs.[13]
Product Lines
Kalmbach Feeds manufactures complete feeds, supplements, and custom blends for various animal species. The company distributes its products through retail partners, farm supply stores, and direct-to-farm delivery services. Manufacturing processes emphasize ingredient quality, animal health considerations, and research-based formulations.[14]

Kalmbach Feeds markets its products under several brand names designed for different animal species and market segments:
