James (Jim) Nicholas Howlin, born 3 Nov 1915 in Plymouth, UK [1] , was the sectional manager for athletics on the Australian team during the 1968 Summer Olympics, held in Mexico City, Mexico [2]. He died after a short illness on 23 Oct 1968 in Mexico City, while serving as manager of the Australian track & field team at the Olympics [3] [4] [5].
Following his death at the 1968 Summer Olympic Games, Ray Weinberg took over his role as manager of the Australian Athletics Team.
Jim was involved in local athletics in Sydney, Australia, throughout his life. He held the position of secretary-manager of Sydney’s Randwick-Botany Athletic Club [6], which is part of Randwick-Botany Harriers, and is listed as a life member [7].
Jim was also a member of the Amateur Athletic Association of NSW management committee, however stepped down from this role in November 1963 following a mix-up in the letting of Sydney Athletic Field to the Soccer Federation when the ground was needed for the Randwick-Botany club's track meeting [8].
