Jetbus is a brand bodywork of small buses, medium buses, large buses, and double-decker bus, which was created and developed by Adi Putro from Malang since 2011. As one of the popular bus bodyworks and also widely used by bus companies in Java Island. This Jetbus has reached its fourth generation with the Jetbus 5 emblem[1] and has become one of Adi Putro's flagship products.
History

Jetbus originated from the development of one of the Royal Coach bodywork products inspired by the Mercedes-Benz Travego and Setra TopClass 500 models, which have been proportionately adjusted in terms of dimensions and model to suit the Indonesian market share, through changes or modifications to the front appearance and headlights (also called Royal lights)[2] with a more elegant design. Adi Putro retained the Royal Coach emblem until the Jetbus 2+ series. Then the Jetbus emblem was attached when Adi Putro started launching Jetbus 3, since then Jetbus has become the name of the products made by Adi Putro from small bus to big bus. The name Jetbus itself comes from the family name of the Adi Putro bodywork owner, Jethrokusumo, which is shortened to Jetbus.[3]
Jetbus is one of the pioneers in creating the 'double glass' bus bodywork trend, which was initiated in 2015. This is a separate windshield that has a A barrier in the form of a horizontal pillar known as a bando.[4] The advantage of this double-glazed window model is the structural reinforcement at the front of the vehicle, making it more robust and resistant to impacts. Furthermore, repair costs can be cheaper if one of the windshields breaks, eliminating the need to replace both parts. However, from the passenger's perspective, the forward view is not as expansive as the single-glazed windows commonly used on previous buses, as the passenger's view is obstructed by the horizontal pillar at the front of the bus.[5]
The Jetbus trend with double-glazed windows was introduced with the launch of the Jetbus 2 SHD and SDD (double-decker buses) at the GAIKINDO exhibition in 2019. 2015[6] and since then Adi Putro no longer produces large buses with single glass.[7] Then this double glass trend was followed by many other bodywork manufacturing companies to add variants to each of their products, complete with various models and types as well as their respective advantages.[6]
Variant

Jetbus products are divided into several types and models according to passenger needs and capacity, ranging from "Medium-Decker" (MD), "High-Decker" (HD), "High-Decker Double-Glass" (HDD), "Medium High-Decker" (MHD), "Super High-Decker" (SHD), "Ultra High-Decker" (UHD) to double-decker bus "Super Double-Decker" (SDD). [8] To complement the UHD product variants, Adi Putro launched the "Medium-High-Decker" (MHD) variant at the Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2019,[9] namely a bus body with a larger luggage capacity[10] and a higher floor and lower ground clearance, resulting in more spacious luggage space.[8]
| Jetbus variant specifications[11] | |||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Type | Model | Dimensions (mm) | Capacity (seats) | ||
| Wide | Long | Tall | |||
| Large bus | SDD (double-decker) | 2,500 | 13,500 | 4,130 | 71-75 |
| UHD (ultra high decker) | 2,500 | 13,500 | 4,000 | 48-59 | |
| SHD (super high decker) | 2,500 | 12,000 | 3,850 | ||
| HDD (high decker) | 2,500 | 12,000 | 3,724 | ||
| MD (medium decker) | 2,300 | 10,000 | 3,412 | 29-39 | |
| Medium bus | Jetbus 3+ Big Benz | 2,300 | 8,100 | 2,935 | 31 |
| Jetbus 3+ Big Jumbo | 2,100 | 8,235 | 2,700 | 21-29 | |
| Jetbus 3+ Jumbo | 1,850 | 6,600 | 2,590 | 14-19 | |
| Jetbus 3+ MC | 1,835 | 6,470 | 2,508 | 17-20 | |
In general, the chassis and engines used in this Jetbus product include Scania, MAN, Mercedes-Benz, Hino, Volvo, Isuzu, and Fuso, and specifically for the Jetbus 3+ SDD (double-decker bus) model, it only uses a three-axle eight-wheel chassis.[12] Adi Putro has developed a premium sleeper class bus body to add to the Jetbus 3+ variant line,[13] namely a bus with beds instead of seats with a smaller passenger capacity.[14] The launch of the premium variant of the "sleeper" class, announced in December 2020 for the Pandawa bus 87, using the Mercedes-Benz OH 1626 chassis. This Jetbus 3+ variant is called "Dream Coach".[15][16] In addition to large buses, Adi Putro also makes medium bus and micro bus bodies, with a capacity of between 15-30 passengers through the MC (Micro) and Jumbo variants which were introduced at the GIIAS 2018 in Surabaya. The MC variant uses an Isuzu NLR 55 bus chassis with a capacity of 16 passengers, and the Jumbo variant uses an Isuzu NQR 71 bus chassis with a capacity of up to 18 passengers.[17]
Then, in February 2023, the Adi Putro bodywork released their newest variant, the Jetbus 3+ F17, which was first owned by PO Efisiensi. This unit has almost the same details as the Jetbus 3+ variant in general. What is different is that this F17 variant does not have a scarf, but has small details on the side of the glass that look like small lists on the Sprinter body that Adi Putro also produced.[18]
Adi Putro launched the latest generation of Jetbus, called Jetbus 5, at the GIIAS 2023 automotive exhibition on August 11, 2023.[19] This launch also marks 50 years of Adi Putro's career in the coach bus industry in Indonesia.[20] There are six variants of Jetbus 5 released, including MHD Dream Coach, MHD Single Glass, SHD Single Glass, SHD Double Glass, Medium Single Glass and SDD (double-decker bus), with chassis options Scania, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo.[20] The first user of Jetbus 5 is SAN which was immediately handed over at the launch event.[19] Previously, Adi Putro released a video clip about the appearance of Jetbus 5 on August 9, 2023, with significant changes in exterior appearance from the previous generation, namely updates to the layout of the headlights and taillights, including no longer using the scarf accent as the ornament of the previous generation Jetbus.[21]
Commercial

Jetbus products are widely used by bus operators as public passenger transportation (commercial) with premium class (non-economy) routes or as tour bus, among these bus operators are Pandawa 87,[22] Nusantara, Sudiro Tungga Jaya,[23] Sinar Jaya,[24] SAN,[25] Lorena Group,[26] Putera Mulya, Rosalia Indah, Kramat Djati, Pahala Kencana and other bus operators.[27] In addition to being used as a public passenger bus (commercial), Jetbus is also used as a means of non-route passenger transportation (non-commercial).[28][29]
With a Jetbus production capacity of up to 150 units per month,[22] Adi Putro is eyeing the Middle East and South American market share for export domestic production, due to considerations of the specifications and dimensions of the buses which are the same as those in Indonesia, only the difference in the steering layout is adjusted to the destination country. The Jetbus models to be exported are HDD, UHD, and SHD. [30]
