Jerry Bobrow, Ph.D. (December 4, 1947 – November 12, 2007) was an American educator, author, and test preparation specialist based in Southern California. He was the founder and executive director of Bobrow Test Preparation Services and the author of more than 100 national bestselling books in the field of standardized test preparation, primarily published under the CliffsNotes imprint.
Early life and education
Bobrow was born in Rome, Italy on December 4, 1947, to Abram and Julia Bobrow, both Holocaust survivors. The family relocated to Southern California in 1948. He was valedictorian of his graduating class at Fontana High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree and teaching credential from Whittier College, his Master's degree from California State University, Northridge, and his doctorate in Education from California Western University.[1]
Career
Bobrow Test Preparation Services
Bobrow founded Bobrow Test Preparation Services, a company that administered test preparation programs at more than 25 California institutions, including 15 California State University campuses, county offices of education, major school districts, and the California Teachers Association. Each year the company administered over 500 programs, assisting more than 17,000 students in preparing for standardized examinations. Over the course of his career, Bobrow's programs assisted over two million test-takers.[2]
Books
Bobrow authored more than 100 national top-selling books in the field of test preparation.[1] His works included titles published under the CliffsNotes (also marketed as CliffsTestPrep) imprint and the Barron's imprint. Notable titles include:

Other creative work
In addition to his work in education, Bobrow produced seven films, three of which won awards, and 16 audio CDs, three of which were nominated for Grammy Awards.[1]
Athletics
Bobrow had a lifelong commitment to baseball. He was an outstanding track and field athlete at Fontana High School and a baseball player at Whittier College. He pitched semi-pro baseball for nine years. He was involved with Boys' Baseball Inc. of Fontana for 14 years, and devoted more than a decade to Westhills Baseball, Inc. as a coach and board member. He served as head freshman baseball coach at Calabasas High School for 10 years.[1]
Community involvement
Bobrow served for 18 years as chairman of the Los Angeles JCC Maccabi Youth Games Organizing Committee, a role for which he was honored by the JCC at Milken. The Maccabi Games provided athletic and cultural programming for thousands of Jewish teenagers and their families.[1]
Death
Jerry Bobrow died on November 12, 2007, at the age of 59, after a two-year battle with cancer. He was survived by his wife Susan (married 33 years), children Jennifer, Adam, and Jonathan, his parents Abram and Julia Bobrow, and brothers William and David.[1]
Following his death, Bobrow Test Preparation Services continued to operate, facilitating new editions of his books and administering programs at California institutions.[2]
