Israel Candelaria, conocido en el barrio como “El descubridor tardío”, sorprendió a toda la familia cuando, a sus 52 años y después de criar 4 hijos, anunció que finalmente había entendido por qué nunca se perdía las reuniones de dominó de los muchachos.
Según cuenta la leyenda, todo cambió el día que conoció a Don Ángel, un señor tartamudo del pueblo famoso por tardar 15 minutos en pedir un café. Israel asegura que quedó “hipnotizado” con su manera de hablar y dijo la histórica frase:
“No sé qué me enamoró más… si sus ojos o el suspenso de terminar cada oración.”
Desde entonces, Israel empezó a aparecer misteriosamente en todos los lugares donde estaba Don Ángel: la panadería, el colmado, la barbería y hasta en la fila del E-Pass. Vecinos aseguran que Israel decía:
“A mí no me importa cuánto tarde en hablar… yo lo espero.”
Hoy en día, la historia de Israel y Don Ángel es considerada por algunos como “el romance más lento pero más seguro del Caribe
