Invest KOREA Summit The Invest KOREA Summit (IKS) is South Korea’s premier national investment promotion event. Hosted annually by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources (MOTIR) and organized by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), the Summit serves as the country’s leading investor relations (IR) forum to attract foreign direct investment (FDI). IKS brings together global investors, domestic companies, as well as central and local government officials to discuss investment opportunities in Korea’s flagship industries such as advanced technology and manufacturing.
Overview The primary objective of the Invest KOREA Summit is to contribute to national economic growth by promoting Korea as an attractive investment destination and facilitating FDI in core national strategic industries. For the 2025 event, the focus was specifically placed on strengthening global supply chains in advanced manufacturing and artificial intelligence (AI), while also supporting balanced regional development by expanding investment opportunities outside the Seoul metropolitan area.
History The inaugural Foreign Investment Festival (FIF) was held to actively promote Korea's investment environment to overseas investors and foreign-invested companies, thereby stimulating foreign investment and enhancing public awareness of such investment. Whilst the name has since changed slightly to FIW (Foreign Investment Week) and IKW (Invest KOREA Week), the fundamental structure of the event remains unchanged to this day. Usually held once annually, it was staged twice in 2009, in March and November, meaning the 2026 event will mark its 22nd iteration.
Foreign Investment Festival (2006–2007)
2006: The inaugural event coincided with the completion of Invest KOREA Plaza (IKP) and featured a foreign investment briefing presided over by President Roh Moo-hyun, alongside industrial site visits to the Kaesong Industrial Complex and the Paju factory. Foreign Investment Forum (2008–2009) 2009: Unusually, two forums were held, in March and November. Foreign Investment Week (2010–2016) 2014: During the 10th event, a welcome message from President Park Geun-hye was broadcast via video. Invest KOREA Week (2017–2022) 2020–2021: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event transitioned to an online format. The conference was conducted in collaboration with Arirang TV, and in 2021, a recorded congratulatory address by President Moon Jae-in was broadcast. Invest KOREA Summit (2023–present) 2023: The name was elevated to “Summit” to emphasize enhanced global standing and the significance of high-level attendance. Furthermore, to support Busan's bid for the 2030 EXPO, it was held in Busan for the first time, rather than Seoul. 2025: The 21st event was held simultaneously in Seoul and Gyeongju, aligned with the “2025 APEC CEO Summit Korea” , thereby expanding its international influence.
Key Programs The Summit typically spans three days and includes a diverse range of high-level activities:
Invest KOREA Conference: The main opening session where the government presents its future vision for the Korean economy and investment climate. Investment Ceremonies: Official sessions where global companies formally declare their intention to invest in the Korean market. Industry-Specific Forums: Detailed sessions focusing on AI, semiconductors, bio-health, and the future of manufacturing. Site Visits: Tours providing investors with first-hand opportunities to visit major industrial clusters and key sites of foreign-invested companies across various regions, helping them assess the local investment environment.
Impact The Invest KOREA Summit functions as a critical platform for realizing the government's core industrial policies. Recent summits have yielded significant quantitative and qualitative results: Capital Attraction: The 2025 event facilitated investment declarations totaling a record-high USD 1.21 billion from 14 global companies. Ecosystem Growth: IKS serves as a matchmaking hub for startups and established global firms, with over 2,000 participants annually, including foreign investors from nearly 200 companies. Supply Chain Resilience: By prioritizing R&D center designations and advanced industry supply chains, the Summit reinforces Korea's status as a reliable global manufacturing powerhouse.
