Insightful (formerly known as WorkPuls[2]) is a workforce analytics and productivity software company. It was founded in 2015 by Ivan Petrovic and is headquartered in San Francisco, California,[1] with additional offices in New York City and Belgrade, Serbia,[3] the company develops software designed to help organizations monitor employee productivity and operational efficiency.
History
Insightful was established in Belgrade, Serbia in 2016 by Ivan Petrovic as WorkPuls.[4] In 2022, Workpuls rebranded as Insightful.[5] Sifted listed Insightful as one of the potential "next unicorns" from Southeast Europe; by this point, the company had raised around $4 million and had relocated to San Francisco, California.[4] Business Insider reported that the company experienced a 45% year-over-year growth in 2024; the company attributed this to the "increased interest to employers wanting to keep workers accountable".[6][irrelevant citation]

Insightful is a workplace analytics software company.[8] Their employee tracker application translates work data into productivity metrics.[2] According to The Saturday Paper, the platform includes features such as employee time tracking, application usage monitoring, and screenshot capture.[1]
Reception
According to Global Banking & Finance Review, Insightful has been part of the growing discussion around return-to-office mandates, providing tools to analyze employee productivity during hybrid work transitions.[9] Insightful and similar employee tracking software have drawn both praise and criticism. Supporters highlight their role in improving productivity and managing hybrid workforces,[10] while critics, including privacy advocates, have raised concerns about employee surveillance and data privacy.[11][12]
In 2023, PCMag graded Insightful as "Best for Employee Privacy" out of employee management software options.[10] The magazine gave Insightful 3.5 out of five stars in a review, praising it as "one of the more exciting entries we tested". They noted its "significantly less draconian" approach while criticizing the trial and setup period.[2]
