International Academic Union of Oceanic Architecture On the afternoon of October 15, 2018, the International Academic Union of Oceanic Architecture (IAUOA) was established in Qingdao by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, Qingdao University of Technology, Nihon University, Korea Maritime and Ocean University, University of Kitakyushu, Kunsan National University, and Jiangsu University of Science and Technology.[1] Names Chinese 国际海洋建筑学术联盟 English International Academic Union of Oceanic Architecture (IAUOA) History The alliance was founded on October 15, 2018.[2] Headquarters • Unit 82a, James Carter Road, Mildenhall, Bury St. Edmunds, England, IP28 7DE[3] • China Office: No. 11 Fushun Road, Shibei District, Qingdao, Shandong Province, China[4] Leadership President: Hao Chibiao (郝赤彪)[5][6] Objectives The alliance aims to promote the construction of international marine human settlements, continuously advance international academic exchange and cooperation, foster professional talent development in oceanic architecture and marine architectural space research, enhance academic standards in marine architecture research, promote efficient utilization of marine resources, and protect the sound development of marine ecology.[7] Cooperation Scope The preliminary cooperation scope established by the alliance includes: establishing the charter of the International Academic Union of Oceanic Architecture, establishing marine academic committees, conducting scientific research on marine human settlements construction, cultivating talents for marine human settlements construction, building exchange platforms for marine human settlements construction, and promoting the development of oceanic architecture as a discipline.[8] Activities Through regularly conducting joint teaching activities in oceanic architecture, initiating the establishment of the international academic journal Coastal Human Settlements,[9][10] and organizing international academic forums on oceanic architecture, the alliance provides theoretical foundations, academic and practical platforms for research in oceanic architecture.[11] Significance The establishment of the alliance helps systematically address bottleneck issues in talent reserves, basic theories, and applied technology research in oceanic architecture, particularly strengthening cross-regional academic cooperation, gathering universities, research institutions, enterprises, and experts and scholars related to oceanic architecture worldwide, assembling the world's "strongest brains," and jointly promoting the substantial development of oceanic architecture as a discipline.[12]
