Hack the North is an annual student-led hackathon held at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. As the largest collegiate hackathon in Canada by number of attendees, Hack the North brings together over 1,000 hackers from dozens of countries for 36 hours of hacking and skill development.[1]

Preparation for the event is currently underway, with the event scheduled to take place from September 18th - 20th, 2026. [2]
Waterloo Tech Week
Techyon Microgrants
In 2025, Hack the North started a program called Techyon Microgrants. This initiative offered students builders the ability to apply for a $2000 grant with no strings attached.[3]
CTF
In 2025, Hack the North offered hackers the ability to qualify for the hackathon via a casual CTF hidden in the website, with top performing participants receiving automatic admission to Hack the North.[4]
