Gorecathedral is an underground solo project in the genres of DSBM (Depressive Suicidal Black Metal) and Black Metal, created by Death Willow. The project is known for its raw emotional themes, extreme atmosphere, and deeply personal lyrical content, focusing on hatred, torture, revenge, trauma, and personal suffering.

History

The project was originally founded under the name Burtach, serving as Death Willow’s first musical project. However, the artist was dissatisfied with the original direction, feeling that the concept lacked the brutality and gore-oriented intensity he wanted to express.

The idea behind Gorecathedral began in 2018, but it was in 2019 when Death Willow discovered Mayhem, which sparked a deep fascination with black metal and extreme music. This discovery heavily influenced the formation of his first project, Burtach, and eventually led to the evolution of Gorecathedral.

Musical style and themes

Gorecathedral combines elements of Depressive Suicidal Black Metal and traditional Black Metal, characterized by harsh instrumentals, dark atmospheres, aggressive emotion, and emotionally driven compositions.

According to Death Willow, every song carries a story from his personal life, with each title representing a struggle, traumatic experience, or emotional wound from his childhood. The project’s lyrical themes revolve around hatred, torture, suffering, trauma, revenge, and psychological torment.

Personal background and artistic approach

According to people close to Death Willow, the vocalist became known for the extreme emotional dedication he put into his music and creative process. His work was heavily influenced by personal struggles, self-destructive behavior, and multiple suicide attempts throughout his life.

Rather than glorifying these experiences, Gorecathedral presents them as expressions of pain, rage, isolation, and psychological suffering. The project was partially created out of intense hatred toward specific individuals and past experiences, while also aiming to help listeners find comfort, understanding, or peace within the chaos of the music.
