Comment: It would be very unusual for a new company like this to meet the notability requirements. See WP:SIRS, and two sections below, one on corporate depth, and the other on listing examples of corporate trivia. All the sources are in the latter section, so WP:SIRS is not met here. Fireworks AI is an American artificial intelligence infrastructure company headquartered in San Mateo, California.[1] The company provides a cloud-based platform for running and optimizing inference workloads for open-source large language models and other generative AI systems.[2] It was founded in October 2022 by former members of Meta Platforms' PyTorch team.[2][3]
History
Founding
Fireworks AI was founded in October 2022 by Lin Qiao and six co-founders who had previously worked at Meta Platforms on the PyTorch machine learning framework.[2][4] Qiao, who serves as a CEO, previously led the PyTorch team at Meta.[3]
Funding
In March 2024, TechCrunch reported that the company had raised $25 million in Series A funding.[3] In July 2024, Fireworks AI raised a $52 million Series B round at a valuation of $552 million, led by Sequoia Capital, with participation from Nvidia, AMD, Databricks Ventures, and MongoDB Ventures.[4]
In July 2025, The Information reported that Fireworks AI was discussing a financing round at a valuation of about $4 billion.[5] In October 2025, the company raised a $250 million Series C round at a valuation of $4 billion, led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, Index Ventures, and Evantic, with participation from Sequoia Capital.[2] According to The Wall Street Journal, the round included $230 million in primary funding and $20 million in secondary funding. At that time, the company reported annual recurring revenue exceeding $280 million and 115 employees.[2] According to The Wall Street Journal, the funding reflected a broader shift in the artificial intelligence industry toward inference infrastructure, as companies increasingly focused on deploying and operating models rather than training them.[2]
Acquisition
In March 2026, Fireworks AI acquired Hathora, a company focused on real-time compute orchestration. The deal was covered independently by GamesBeat and SiliconANGLE.[6][7]
Platform
Fireworks AI provides access to GPU infrastructure and software tools for running inference workloads for open-source AI models.[2][3] The company focuses on deploying and customizing existing models rather than training foundation models from scratch.[3]
The Wall Street Journal described the company as part of the market for AI inference infrastructure and identified competitors including major cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, as well as startups including Baseten and Together AI.[2] According to Business Insider, the platform was processing about 15 trillion tokens per day in April 2026. The same report described growing demand for inference infrastructure and the associated pressure on GPU capacity and power systems.[8]
Products
Coverage of the company has also discussed the economics of token-based inference pricing. In October 2024, The Register reported that Fireworks AI charged $0.20 per million tokens for certain models with between four billion and sixteen billion parameters.[9] In January 2025, VentureBeat reported pricing for DeepSeek-R1 on Fireworks AI at $8 and $9 per million tokens.[10] The company's services have also been made available through partner cloud platforms and marketplaces, including Microsoft Foundry, AWS Marketplace, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.[11][12][13]
Recognition
Fireworks AI was named to the Forbes Next Billion-Dollar Startups list in 2024.[14] In October 2024, the company's platform was included in TIME's Best Inventions of 2024.[15] Fireworks AI was also included in the Forbes AI 50 list in 2026.[16]
