Fipple Rules is a 1980 television pilot directed by Lewis Lewis-Moore, and starring [./Https://www.discogs.com/artist/16058919-Big-Fipple Herb L. Tidd], Shalom Brinkman, Jessica Coffin, and Carla Huppert. The plot follows the hijinks and misadventures of the members of the Fipple family. It was filmed largely in Calexico, California.
The original title for the show was The Fipples.
Plot summary
The Fipple family from early 1960s Los Angeles have no idea what they are doing with their lives: teenagers George, Few, Ron, their parents Walter and Kimberly, and Ron's father, John, share a house in Encino. George, Walter and Few are there to lose their virginity, while Walter is looking for a new wife, as Kimberly has crossed the border to Tijuana because she wants a fast divorce. Their neighbors, the McGillicuddys, are looking to kill the patriarch of the Fipple family, John.
The show is loosely based on the showrunner's childhood.[1]
Production
The series was caught up in the 1980 Screen Actors Guild strike and did not begin production until that fall.[2] It was canceled after just one episode was filmed, however the soundtrack from the show, performed by Big Fipple (the moniker of Herb L. Tidd) got a cassette release to promote the show and eventually got a CD release as well.[3]
