Draft:Fastmount

Fastmount Ltd. is a New Zealand-based manufacturer of hidden panel mounting systems serving marine, architectural, recreational vehicle (RV), aviation, and furniture industries. Founded in 2004 by Greg Kelly, the company is known for producing clip-based fastening, mounting and rail systems that allow removable and precisely aligned panels.[1]

History

Fastmount was founded in 2004 by Gregg Kelly, a boat builder in Auckland, New Zealand. While working on yacht interiors, Kelly observed serious limitations with the common use of hook-and-loop fasteners: panels often sagged, didn't align precisely, or were difficult to remove for maintenance. To address these issues, he partnered with designer/engineer Ron Hanley to design the company’s first products, the PC-M1B and PC-F1A clip sets, forming the basis of what became the Fastmount Panel Mounting System.[1]

Over the years, Fastmount expanded its product offerings and geographic reach. By the time of its 15th anniversary around 2019, the company had developed seven different product ranges and over 45 clip types. Superyacht builders and fit-out specialists around the world used its panel mounting solutions.[1][2]

In May 2019, when Fastmount launched the Stratlock Range (later the Stratlock Rail System). Designed in collaboration with Italian firm Poliform Contract, Stratlock is a heavy-duty hidden panel mounting solution aimed at large panels mounted on aluminum or steel frameworks. It features a dual-locking mechanism for precise positioning and adjusts for tolerances during installation.[2]

Acquisition

In November-December 2021, Fastmount was acquired by Nautical Group Holdings (NGH), a newly formed company backed by private equity firm Oriens Capital. This acquisition brought Fastmount together with other brands like Railblaza and NTD Plastics under one umbrella, with an expressed goal of scaling up innovation, governance, manufacturing, and global distribution.[3][4]

In May 2022, Gregg Kelly officially stepped down as Director and Head of Technical after 18 years leading the company. Keith Pratt succeeded him as General Manager. Around that time, Fastmount reported having 38 global distributors and indicated plans to expand further into architectural, aviation, and recreational vehicle sectors under its NGH ownership. Kelly remained a shareholder in the group.[1][4]

Awards

In 2021, The Stratlock Rail System won the Australian Good Design Award, an ICONIC Award from the German Design Council in the “Innovative Architecture” category, and a Bronze at the Best Design Awards in New Zealand.[4][5][6]
