MissionDidis Private Limited (transl. "Mission for Sisters"), popularly known as FarmDidi, is an Indian women-led enterprise involved in the manufacturing and distribution of various traditional pickles and preserved foods. The organisation's main objective is empowering women by providing them with employment opportunities, supporting rural farmers, and promoting organic and natural food products.

History

FarmDidi traces its origins to the fieldwork of founder Manjari Sharma during her MBA at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM-C), where she worked across villages in Bihar and observed that large-scale male migration to cities had left rural women managing farms, households, and childcare with little economic recognition.[3] A question repeatedly asked by the women she met,"Didi, hum aur kya kar sakte hai?" ("What more can we do?"),stayed with her and shaped her entrepreneurial journey.[4] In 2019, after exploring and discarding rural lending and mobile-app based models, Sharma met a rural woman named Rekha Didi, who managed approximately 300 self-help group women in her village and argued that what women truly needed was not loans but market access and distribution.[5] This insight, combined with Sharma's observation that rural women already possessed a highly monetizable skill in traditional food-making, led to the founding of MissionDidis Private Limited, popularly known as Farm Didi, in August 2021, alongside co-founders Asmita Ghodeshwar and Anukrit Johari in rural Maharashtra.[6] The company built a decentralized model where women produced traditional pickles and preserved foods locally using farm-fresh ingredients, while FarmDidi standardized quality control, packaging, compliance, and market access. A foundational influence on FarmDidi's community model was Rekha Didi, a rural woman whom the founders encountered in 2019. Managing approximately 300 women through local self-help groups, Rekha Didi argued that rural women did not merely need loans; they needed sustainable access to markets and distribution channels. FarmDidi primarily builds its women's network through partnerships with self-help groups (SHGs) across rural Maharashtra, working with local NGOs to identify and onboard women entrepreneurs.[24] The company was incubated at AIC-Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhin Foundation, set up under the Atal Innovation Mission of NITI Aayog, Government of India.[25]

Many women in Farm Didi's network have reported becoming financially independent and first-time earners, gaining decision-making power within their families, and transitioning from managing household chores to supervising village-level food production groups.[26][27]
