Exomelatin is a cosmetic ingredient complex developed by Swiss researchers in May 2022. It is formulated to address hyperpigmentation and regulate melanin synthesis. The formula combines an exosome-based delivery system, Melazero™ v2, and Polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) to target various stages of melanin production and skin regeneration.
Composition
Exomelatin consists of three primary active systems and supplementary antioxidants:
- Exosome Delivery System: Utilizes exosomes, specifically those derived from Centella asiatica (Cica), to facilitate the delivery of active ingredients to the basal layer of the epidermis. This system aims to overcome the penetration limitations of conventional ingredients like Vitamin C.
- Melazero™ v2: An ingredient designed to regulate tyrosinase activity and promote the autophagy of melanosomes, thereby aiming to reduce melanin synthesis and aggregation.
- PDRN (Polydeoxyribonucleotide): A substance used in tissue regeneration which is included to mitigate inflammation and downregulate signals that may trigger recurrent pigmentation, such as those caused by UV exposure.
Additionally, the formula includes supplementary ingredients such as Vitamin C, Glutathione, and Niacinamide for their antioxidant and skin-brightening properties.
Mechanism of Action
The mechanism of Exomelatin is described in three stages:
- Deep Delivery: Exosomes assist in transporting active ingredients to the melanocytes in the basal layer.
- Root Control: Melazero™ v2 targets the enzymatic processes of melanin production to inhibit synthesis.
- Regeneration Loop Block: PDRN works to stabilize skin recovery pathways and reduce the recurrence of pigmentation caused by external stimuli.
Applications
Exomelatin is used in dermatological cosmetics for:
- Management of hyperpigmentation disorders such as melasma, lentigines, and freckles.
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) care.
- Skin tone evening and post-laser procedure recovery.
