Elijah Manley (born January 6, 1999) is an American educator and Politician from Florida. He is running in the 2026 election for Florida's 20th Congressional District.
Early Life and Education
Manley was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. During the 2008 financial crisis, Manley’s family experienced homelessness.[1][2] He graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School in 2017, and enrolled in Broward College briefly before transferring to the University of Maryland Global Campus.
Career
Manley's involvement in politics began at an early age. Starting at 14 years of age, he became a gadfly at County Commission and School Board meetings in Broward County, Florida. In 2016, he made a protest run for President of the United States in the Green Party's 2016 presidential primaries.[3] This is notable because Manley was sixteen years-old at the time. The constitution requires candidates to be thirty-five years of age to qualify for the Presidency. Manley has run unsuccessfully for office multiple times. In 2018, he ran for the Broward County School Board at 19 years old.[4][5]He ran for the Florida House of Representatives in 2020, and in 2022.[6][7][8][9][10] Manley is currently a long term substitute teacher in Broward County Public Schools.
2026 U.S. House Campaign
Manley is currently a Democratic candidate for Congress in Florida's 20th congressional district[11], where he is challenging U.S. Representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick.[12] He has out-raised the incumbent, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel.[13][14] In September 2025, Cherfilus-McCormick sued Manley for defamation.[15][16][17][18][19] The case was dismissed in January 2026.[20][21][22] In November 2025, Cherfilus-McCormick was indicted for fraud and money laundering.[23][24] She faces 53 years in prison.[25] Polls show Manley leading Cherfilus-McCormick and the field in the Democratic Primary.[26][27]
Personal life
Manley resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
