Econofoods is an American supermarket chain. It was founded in 1976 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and acquired by Jim Tadych in 1979. The chain was largely located in central-western Michigan for most of its history, it opened its first stores in the early 80s.
History
The first full sized Econofoods in 1985 in Cedar Rapids Iowa, then the first Econofoods store in Minnesota in 1987 in Rochester Minnesota near the Apache Mall, then the Econofoods store opened in Winona Minnesota in late 1989 near Goodview, then the Econofoods in Hutchinson Minnesota opened in 1996, the second Econofoods store opened in Rochester Minnesota in December 1999, then the two Econofoods stores opened the first in 2001 and second in 2002 in Red Wing Minnesota, the Econofoods was popular from the early 2000s until 2003,
the population begins to go down
In August of 2003, the owner of Econofoods died in a plane accident, then Econofoods started to closed down two stores in the United States in January 2004, the Six Econofoods stores including the two stores in Rochester Minnesota closed down in June 2004, then on December 26, 2004, the store in Winona was low on customers, then on the 8th of January 2005, they did say they were gonna close their store on 22nd of January, in August of 2008, the Econofoods in new Richmond was going to locked up the store then remodel into a family fresh in Early 2009, the Econofoods in Hutchinson Minnesota closed down in late 2013, and the Econofoods in St Peter remodel into a Family Fresh that year, In late 2016, the Econofoods in Cannon Falls got remodeled into a Family Fare, the Econofoods in Red wing Minnesota closed down the big store in 2018, and the tiny store became a Family Fare, the last Econofoods stores including the one in Durand Wisconsin left in 2019, and the one in Norwood Young America, and Somerset Wisconsin left, then the store chain is gone permanently,
