Comment: Why does the whole article have superscript formatting? Edit the page’s source code and you’ll see what I mean. —pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 20:26, 6 January 2026 (UTC)

Eastern Accents, Inc. (doing business as Eastern Accents) is a Chicago-based manufacturer of luxury bedding and home décor. Known for domestically made products and in-house design, the company operates a factory in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood.[1] Founded in 1989 by married couple Ridvan and Siw Tatargil, the family-run company first began by making kilim pillows from damaged Turkish rugs at a 3,000-square-foot loft in the Fulton Market neighborhood in Chicago.[2] In 2006, Eastern Accents undertook a $10 million expansion that added a 60,000-square-foot, two-story addition and rehabilitated three buildings, building toward a multi-structure campus of roughly 230,000 square feet; at the time, the company supplied about 1,500 retailers and employed around 300 people. Eastern Accents has been wholly owned and run by the Tatargil family since its inception.[3]
In 2011, then-Mayor Richard M. Daley toured the company’s expanded manufacturing campus, and praised its role in the surrounding 30th and 31st wards; at the time, the firm reported about 191 employees with plans to add 100 jobs over five years.[4]
COVID-19 Response
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Eastern Accents shifted part of its operations to mask production, primarily donating them to essential workers and shelters, with some sold to the public to support donations.[5]
Design Protection and Litigation
In the mid-2000s, Eastern Accents filed a lawsuit alleging that Ashley Furniture Industries and Southwestern Furniture, which operates several Ashley Furniture Home Stores, had copied Eastern Accents designs; the complaint referred to “Knockoff Collections” and characterized the copying as “wholesale,” allegations which Ashley Furniture denied.[6]
Expansion to High Point, North Carolina
In May 2023, Eastern Accents announced a year-round presence in High Point, North Carolina, repurposing the former Hayworth Roll & Panel factory for production and product showcasing.[7]
Designer Collaborations
In 2024, interior designer Alexa Hampton launched a limited-edition pillow collection with Eastern Accents, entitled "One of a Kind," which debuted at High Point Market and featuring matched pairs that incorporate mixed materials and techniques such as hand-stitched embroidery and laser cutting.[8] Eastern Accents also partners with several other high-profile interior designers such as Barclay Butera,[9] and Thom Filicia[10] of the television show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.
