Early life and education
Dujuan Thomas is a graduate of Paducah Tilghman High School.[1] He later attended the University of Louisville,[2][3] and later earned a Master of Legal Studies degree from American University Washington College of Law in 2024.[4][5]
In 2015, Thomas was featured in a viral media moment during a RiverDogs baseball game when actor Bill Murray sang to him about his hometown of Paducah.[6]
Thomas later pursued work in media and interviewing and has conducted interviews with public figures in entertainment and professional wrestling, including WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi.[7][8]
Political career
Mayoral campaign (2020)
In May 2020, Thomas announced a write-in campaign for mayor of Paducah, Kentucky, becoming the youngest candidate in the race at age 21.[9] During his mayoral run, Thomas received the honorary title of Kentucky Colonel, the highest civilian honor awarded by the Commonwealth of Kentucky, in recognition of his community involvement.[10]
During the campaign period, Thomas participated in radio and local media interviews discussing his background, motivations for public service, and goals for Paducah.[11] He also co-hosted and participated in a community unity rally in Paducah during the summer of 2020 amid nationwide demonstrations for racial justice.[12]
City Commission campaign and controversy (2022–2023)
In 2022, Thomas ran for a seat on the Paducah City Commission. During the campaign, a controversy arose involving incumbent commissioner David Guess after racially charged text messages referencing Thomas were disclosed following the removal of political campaign signs from city property.[13]
In January 2023, the Paducah City Commission voted unanimously to pursue removal proceedings against Guess, citing misconduct related to the messages.[14][15] A court injunction later prevented Guess’s removal, and the legal action was ultimately discontinued.[16] Following the controversy, the city adopted revisions to its municipal code of ethics.[17]
Paducah City Commission (2024–present)
In November 2024, Thomas was elected at-large to the Paducah City Commission.[18] He is the youngest city commissioner in Paducah’s history.[19]
Following his election, Thomas identified transparency, housing initiatives, and accountability within city government as policy priorities.[20]
In 2025, Thomas traveled to Washington, D.C., as a Congressional Liaison for Opportunity Youth, joining a national delegation advocating for increased federal support for youth disconnected from work and education. He was selected from more than 200 applicants through an initiative led by the Reconnecting Youth Campaign and the Forum for Youth Investment.[21]
During the visit, he met with U.S. Representative James Comer of Kentucky and U.S. Representative Shontel Brown of Ohio to discuss housing policy, Medicaid, Job Corps funding, and youth development initiatives. He also highlighted Paducah’s housing needs and local homelessness initiatives, including support for the city’s Homeless Services Grant and the Paducah Cooperative Ministry’s shelter expansion.[22]
Reality Television
Thomas appeared as one of ten contestants on the first season of Guts & Glory, a six-episode horror-competition series created by The Walking Dead producer Greg Nicotero and released on Shudder and AMC+ in October 2025.[23][24] He competed as part of the second team introduced in the premiere episode, and was eliminated in the fourth episode’s graveyard challenge.
In a 2025 interview about the series, Thomas explained that a casting producer first approached him by phone and that he agreed to take part even though the production kept the show’s premise largely secret, saying he likes to “step out of [his] comfort zone and try something new” and viewed the series as an opportunity to represent Paducah and test himself in an unfamiliar environment.[25]
