Draft:Draft Faith Broadcasting Network

Faith Broadcasting Network (FBN), also known as Faith TV and Faith Africa, is a South African Christian television broadcasting network headquartered in East London, Eastern Cape. The network broadcasts Christian programming through satellite television, streaming services and digital media platforms. Its flagship African television service, Faith Africa, is carried on DStv channel 341.[1]

The network emerged from the East London-based television operation that previously broadcast as TBN Africa, a partnership with the American-based Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN). On 1 November 2014, the channel was rebranded as Faith Broadcasting Network following the termination of the relationship between the South African operation and TBN.[2][3]

History

Early ministry origins

The roots of Faith Broadcasting Network are associated with pastors André and Jenny Roebert. According to ministry biographies, the Roeberts founded Revival South Africa in 1996 and established The River Church in East London in 1998. The ministry later expanded into a larger organization known as The River Group, which included church, media, publishing and broadcasting activities.[4]

TBN Africa

The network's origins are linked to Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), the American Christian television network founded by Paul and Jan Crouch in 1973.[5]

According to TBN historical accounts, the network established a broadcasting presence in the former Ciskei homeland during the 1980s. Following the end of apartheid, operations were relocated to East London. The East London operation subsequently launched nationally on the DStv platform in May 2002 under the name TBN Africa.[6][7]

Under the TBN Africa identity, the East London operation produced local Christian programming while distributing international Christian content through the TBN network.[8]

2014 dispute and separation

In 2014, a public dispute arose between Trinity Broadcasting Network and the East London operation led by André Roebert. The disagreement reportedly concerned governance issues, financial accountability and the funding of infrastructure projects at the East London facilities.[9]

Following the dispute, the partnership between TBN and the South African operation ended. On 1 November 2014, TBN Africa was rebranded as Faith Broadcasting Network.[10]

Shortly after the rebranding, Faith Broadcasting Network announced new programming partnerships with international broadcasters including The Word Network. In a 2014 announcement, André Roebert was identified as chief executive officer of the "Faith Broadcasting Family of Networks".[11]

TBN's return to Africa

Following the separation from the East London operation, Trinity Broadcasting Network launched a separate African broadcasting initiative. In 2016, TBN returned to DStv through a partnership with Rhema Ministries, broadcasting on channel 343 under the name TBN in Africa.[12][13]

Operations

Faith Broadcasting Network operates television channels, streaming services and digital media platforms. Programming includes church services, Christian teaching, worship programming, conferences, documentaries and children's content.[14]

According to the network, its operations include international television services targeting audiences in Africa, the United Kingdom and North America.[15]
