Dimitris Bako (Greek: Δημήτρης Μπακόπουλος) is a Greek jazz guitarist based in Athens, Greece. He performs primarily in the straight-ahead and contemporary jazz traditions and leads ensembles including the Dimitris Bako Trio and Dimitris Bako Quartet.
Early life and education
Bako studied guitar in Greece before continuing his studies in jazz performance at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in the Netherlands.
Career
After completing his studies, Bako established himself in the Athens jazz scene as a performing guitarist and bandleader. He performs weekly in trio and quartet formats, presenting repertoire that includes jazz standards and original arrangements.
He has held a regular performance residency at the venue Linovatis in Kifisia, Athens. His performances there were featured in an article by Stage News, which described his work as presenting elements of the New York jazz tradition to audiences in Athens.[1]
Bako has also appeared on Greek radio programs, including live jazz broadcasts. [ERT Radio]
Musical style
Bako’s playing is rooted in the straight-ahead jazz tradition, incorporating improvisation and ensemble interaction characteristic of modern jazz performance.
