Denodo [Galician meaning ‘courage’ or ‘bravery’] is an American privately held data management company specializing in data virtualization and logical data management platforms. It was founded in Spain 1999 by Angel Viña.^[1] The company's headquarters are based in Palo Alto, California, with 25 offices in 20 countries across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. ^[2]

Denodo provides data access, data governance, and data delivery capabilities across enterprise, cloud, big data, and unstructured data sources.^[3] The company's core offering is the Denodo Platform, a data management solution that transforms enterprise data into insights for AI, analytics, and self-service initiatives using a data virtualization architecture. ^[4][5] The Denodo platform helps various industries to gather necessary data for better business insights.^[6][7]

Denodo was founded in 1999 by Ángel Viña, a professor at the University of A Coruña in Spain at the time, basing his research on real-time data access and integration technologies.^[3]

Denodo has also been recognized in the industry across various independent analyst evaluations, such as Gartner and Forrester. Gartner positioned Denodo as a Leader in its Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools for the 5th consecutive year in 2024,^[27]while Forrester Research positioned Denodo as a Leader in The Forrester Wave™, with their principal analyst stating that Denodo "delivers a world-class data fabric solution". ^[28]ISG Research stated that "the popularity of data fabric and data mesh has highlighted the importance of software providers such as Denodo, that utilize data virtualization to enable logical data management," and recommended Denodo as one of their providers in their evaluations for data management. ^[29]

An independent Total Economic Impact™study was also conducted by Forrester Consulting to measure the financial impact on companies using the Denodo platform. This study found that Denodo customers benefited from an 83% increase in business user productivity, a 67% reduction in development resources, and data access speeds 65% faster than traditional ETL-based approaches. ^[30]

There has been some critical analysis of Denodo and its platform from independent analysts, such as Sanjeev Mohan, from SanjMo, who stated that he would like Denodo to “take more of a leadership role in the space of data products," saying that Denodo has built the foundation with a data catalog, semantic layer, and access controls, but should now "move up the stack and move more into the business domain." ^[31]
