Early Life
Perkal was born on January 21, 1969 in California to Michael Leonard Perkal and Teresa Claudia Guthrie-Perkal. He was the first of two siblings, Joel Perkal and himself. On or about September 26, 1974, his parents divorced, and Perkal spent the rest of his childhood split between two parents. [1] His father later remarried, having another child who became Perkal's half-sister, then re-divorced. Growing up between his fathers house in Southern California and his Uncles in Maui, Perkal developed interests in surfing and sailing, which he continues to pursue.
Family Law

Monica Moynihan and David Perkal married in 2000 and have two children, Nikolas (2003) and Natasha (2006). David filed for divorce in 2015, marking the start of a highly litigious process that spanned several years. Early on, in 2016, Monica obtained a domestic violence temporary restraining order against David. Although David sought his own restraining order against Monica, his request was denied. Perkal reportedly broke the restraining order several times, leading to further investigation within the court.

Monica successfully renewed her restraining order in 2019, gaining a lifelong DVRO, a rare order granted only in life-threatening cases. The couple's son, Nikolas, also obtained his own domestic violence restraining orders against David, with his sister Natasha as a protected party. Both son and protected party daughter renewed their restraining orders once more in 2024, for a two year order likely ending in early to mid 2026. [2]
