Chandley was primarily responsible for evening weather forecasts on the station's 5, 6, 10, and 11 PM newscasts.

Prior to WSB-TV, Chandley worked for WALB-TV in Albany, Georgia, WMAZ-TV in Macon, Georgia, and WTVM-TV in Columbus, Georgia.

Chandley holds the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation from the American Meteorological Society. In his career, he's received 11 Southeast Emmy Awards and 13 Associated Press Best Weather Reporting Awards. In 2025, Chandley was inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Southeast Silver Circle.

Career

Chandley graduated from the University of Georgia in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in broadcast journalism.[1] Following graduation, he worked for WALB-TV while completing the broadcast meteorology program at Mississippi State University.

From Albany, Chandley moved to WMAZ-TV in Macon in 1985, then to WTVM-TV in Columbus in 1987.[1]

In 1989, Chandley joined WSB-TV as the weekend meteorologist, a role he held until 2005 when he moved to the weekday 5 PM newscasts. He played pivotal roles in major weather events as they unfolded, including the 1998 Dunwoody tornado, Hurricane Katrina, 2009 Metro Atlanta floods, and the 2014 Georgia winter storm.

At WSB-TV, Chandley was known for various roles aside from day-to-day meteorologist responsibilities, including co-hosting the annual Macy's Tree Lighting at Lenox Square Mall and the Christmas Santa Tracker.

Chandley made a cameo appearance in the 2000 film Remember the Titans as Reporter #2.[2]

In 2014, Chandley declined to renew his contract with WSB-TV, citing his dream to become chief meteorologist. WSB-TV management publicly acknowledged their efforts to keep him, but the parties could not reach an agreement. Chandley officially left the station on July 11, 2014.[3]

After a six-month non-compete period from the WSB-TV contract, Chandley joined WAGA-TV as chief meteorologist on January 26, 2015.[4] He made his debut on Good Day Atlanta before working that evening in his new time slot, weekday nights. Chandley navigated viewers through major events for over a decade as chief meteorologist, including tornado outbreaks, hurricanes, and winter storms.

On April 24, 2026, Chandley retired from WAGA-TV.[5]
