Derek John Miller aka D$ was born to an interracial couple at the Holy Cross hospital in Calgary, Alberta Canada. He grew up moving around to many different cities and towns but one thing stayed constant. Music!
D$ (formerly Endangered Logik) began his musical journey in the late '90s, initially crafting parodies of rock songs. In 2000, he crossed paths with underground MC Abacuz, who mentored him and helped shape his lyrical style. D$ dove into music production with DIY tools like Cool Edit Pro and Fruity Loops, honing his craft through collaboration with collectives like Trip~Wyre and Acadia Manor. After a decade of ups and downs in the music scene, D$ took a hiatus in 2010, following a personal setback. However, an unjust firing from his job reignited his passion, leading to the release of Today’s Yesterday and Yesterday’s Tomorrow, two EPs exploring themes of memory and identity. His 2024 album For the Record marked a deeper dive into his personal struggles and social commentary, while In Business (2025) showcased his evolving sound.
With a focus on authenticity, D$ blends raw emotion with technical precision, drawing inspiration from 2Pac’s honesty and Will Smith’s storytelling. He’s not chasing trends he’s focused on creating meaningful music that reflects his own journey. His upcoming Greatest Hits anthology is both a retrospective and reintroduction to his music, blending introspection with broader social issues. D$ continues to advocate for a collaborative, inclusive creative community.
