Draft:Coultry

  • Comment: As discussed at Talk:Sillogue, it is unclear how this (other) sub-set of Ballymun has independent notability relative to WP:NPLACE. If the main subject is the townland of Coultry (in the Electoral Division of "Airport" with a population of 5 people in 4 houses) and which almost entirely overlaps with one runway and part of a taxiway of Dublin Airport, then it wouldn't appear to have notability independent of the Airport ED (or the airport). If the main subject is the housing developments named after the townland (and built nearby but not in the townland), how do those housing estates meet WP:GEOLAND? And why do they need to be covered (in this level of detail) outside the article on the suburb in which they lie? Guliolopez (talk) 12:27, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

Coultry (Irish: Coltraí) is a neighbourhood in Ballymun.[1][2][3]: 16

History

Coultry Housing Development

Coultry was the final housing scheme commisioned by Ballymun Regeneration Ltd. as part of their 1997 masterplan for Ballymun. The Coultry Housing Development was declared open by the Lord Mayor of Dublin at the time Críona Ní Dhálaigh and former Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Alan Kelly on 15 July 2015.[1] As part of the masterplan, a new park was developed and called Coultry Park[2][3]: 27  alongside a neighbourhood centre called the Coultry Neighbourhood Centre,[4][3]: 28  which was completed in 2006.[3]: 59  In 2007, the Coultry Housing Development was projected to cost €6.9 million. While the exact amount spent on the project is unknown, according to Alan Kelly "Funding of over €5m for this scheme was provided from my Department’s national regeneration programme".[1][3]: 85

Tuath Housing Association's 463-unit development

In 2025, it was announced that a 463-unit development on the site of the former Ballymun Flats had been given the greenlight.[5][6] This announcement was controversial as it required the demolition of 62-65 Coultry Gardens and the existing residents received no direct communication from Dublin City Council.[7] Tuath Housing Association CLG applied to Dublin City Council for planning permission to build the development on 15 August 2025.[7][8][9] The development is planned to surround the Rediscovery Centre.[10]
