Commander Monsur Ali is a Bangladeshi freedom fighter and local figure from Syedpur. He is popularly known as "Commander" for his role in the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. After the war, he became well-known locally for his tea and snacks shop near the Syedpur railway station, which attracts people from different backgrounds.

Early Life

Monsur Ali was born in Syedpur. His father was a singer and theatre actor and worked in the railway power house until his death in 1966. After his father's death, Monsur Ali took on family responsibilities at a young age.

Role in the Liberation War

During the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, Monsur Ali organized a group of local youths and joined Mukti Bahini (freedom fighters). They crossed into India for training and conducted guerrilla operations against the Pakistani army from bases near the border in Cooch Behar.

Monsur Ali's forces participated in operations in the Rangpur region, including Shilibari, Chapai, Boro Khata, Choto Khata, Chor Guddu Mari, Dauabari, Nageshori, Bhurungamari, and Hatibanda. He was involved in sabotage operations, including the demolition of a Pakistani army train.

Later Life and Legacy

After independence, Monsur Ali returned to Syedpur and opened a tea and snacks shop, where he is a well-known community figure. He has publicly expressed disappointment over lack of recognition from the government for freedom fighters but remains respected by local residents.
