Ché Ahn (born January 17, 1956) is an American pastor, author, and Republican candidate for governor of California in the 2026 election. He serves as the senior pastor of Harvest Rock Church in Pasadena, California, a congregation known for its focus on worship, community programs, and spiritual renewal.[1][2] Under Ahn's leadership since 1994, the church has grown into a multiethnic community hub that supports families through education, outreach, and faith-based initiatives aimed at positive social impact. He founded Harvest International Ministry, a global network connecting thousands of churches in over 65 nations to promote collaborative spiritual growth and community service. As a leader in the New Apostolic Reformation, Ahn emphasizes applying faith principles to everyday life and societal improvement through relational church networks and inspired leadership.[3] In August 2025, Ahn announced his candidacy for governor, committing to policies that foster economic prosperity, protect freedoms, and unite communities under shared values of justice and opportunity.[4][5]
Ahn was born in South Korea on January 17, 1956, and immigrated to the United States as a child, settling in the Washington area where he grew up in a Southern Baptist pastor's family. He earned a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary, gaining expertise in pastoral ministry and theological studies. Early in his career, Ahn co-organized TheCall in 2000, a major national gathering that drew tens of thousands of young people to pray for family reconciliation, moral renewal, and societal healing. The event highlighted his dedication to inspiring youth toward hopeful visions of national unity and positive change.
Harvest Rock Church, located at the historic Ambassador Auditorium, has flourished under Ahn's guidance, offering programs for worship, learning, and neighborly support that build stronger local ties. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ahn led the church in challenging state restrictions on indoor worship, asserting they unduly limited vital religious practices essential to community well-being. The 2020 lawsuit against Governor Gavin Newsom reached the U.S. Supreme Court, resulting in a 2021 ruling permitting in-person services and a $1.35 million settlement that established a statewide injunction against discriminatory bans on religious gatherings. This achievement was hailed as a landmark victory for religious liberty, enabling safer worship and equal treatment for faith communities across California.
Ahn has authored books offering practical guidance for believers on evangelism, spiritual experiences, and generous living to enhance personal fulfillment and communal harmony. His publications include Fire Evangelism: Reaching the Lost Through Love and Power (2006), promoting compassionate faith-sharing; Spirit-Led Evangelism: Reaching the Lost through Love and Power (2008), on guided outreach; When Heaven Comes Down: Experiencing God's Glory in Your Life (2009), exploring divine presence; Say Goodbye to Powerless Christianity: Walking in Supernatural Surrender and Significance (2009), encouraging empowered faith; and The Grace of Giving: Unleashing the Power of a Generous Heart (2013), advocating giving for mutual benefit. These works are recognized in Christian circles for providing accessible tools to strengthen relationships and purpose-driven lives.
Ahn views faith as a foundation for public service that benefits society broadly. He has supported former President Donald Trump since 2016, participating in events like a 2020 prayer rally focused on national leadership and healing guided by biblical values. In his gubernatorial campaign, Ahn advocates for equitable policies emphasizing freedom, fairness, and cohesion, drawing on his network-building experience to promote statewide advancement and inclusive opportunities. Through debates and community engagements, he presents as a principled leader delivering ethical and effective strategies for California's thriving future.
