Casa Optima is a multinational industrial group headquartered in Italy, operating in the production and marketing of ingredients and semi-finished products for artisanal gelato, pastry, professional dessert decoration and beverage.[1][2][3][4]

Overview

Casa Optima manufactures and markets ingredients for artisanal gelato, semi-finished products for pastry, professional cake-and-dessert decorations, and beverage-mixing solutions.[5] The group manages five production plants and operates in over 150 countries.

History

In late 2016, Charterhouse Capital Partners began building a portfolio of companies in the gelato and pastry ingredients manufacturing, starting with the acquisition of MEC3, a leading manufacturer of ingredients for artisanal gelato and pastry, known for products such as Cookies The Original and the Quella cream line.[6] This was followed by the acquisition of Modecor Italiana in 2017, a company specialized in professional pastry decorations and cake design, and of Giuso in 2018, a Piedmont-based company focused on fruit-based ingredients such as jams, compounds, candied fruit and fillings.[7][8]

These acquisitions led to the creation of the holding company Casa Optima in 2019. In the same year, the group also acquired Pernigotti Maestri Gelatieri Italiani, a historic brand known for cocoa-based products and nut-processing expertise.[9][10][11][12]

In 2020, Casa Optima expanded further by acquiring the Brazilian company Blend Coberturas, a key player in the Latin American market producing coatings and semi-finished products, with a strong focus on products without added sugar.[13]

Also in 2020, Casa Optima launched the Casa Optima School of Sweet Arts & Innovation, the evolution of the International School of Gelato founded in 2005. The educational hub now includes 13 international training centers and trains over 700 professionals every year.[14][15][16]

In 2022, it launched DOuMIX?, a beverage focused brand.[17]

In May 2025, an agreement was signed for the transfer of ownership of Casa Optima from Charterhouse Capital Partners to Terlos LLP, a private investment firm whose exclusive limited partners are Javier Ferrán, the current Chairman of Casa Optima’s Board of Directors, and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund (ADIA). In addition to Terlos, GIC, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund (GIC), will also acquire a stake in the Group. The transaction was valued at approximately €900 million.[18][19][20][21][22][23][24]

Since 2021, Casa Optima has chosen to align with the 2030 Agenda, actively promoting the sustainable development guidelines relating to 11 of the 17 goals.
