Bix Pix Entertainment is an American animation studio based in Burbank, California. They are internationally known for their high-quality stop motion animation.  It was founded by Kelli Bixler in 1998.[17]

Overview

Initially based in Chicago and working only in clay animation, Bix Pix's first projects included Dinner Time, an original interstitial series for The Disney Channel, and animating Dick Clark for the television series Bloopers, Bleepers & Blunders.  The studio also created a spec commercial celebrating NBC's 75th anniversary that, after viewing, NBC subsequently bought.

Bix Pix soon expanded into a multi-material approach to stop-motion animation. This approach can be seen in Christmastime for the Jews, a sketch produced in 17 days for Robert Smigel's "TV Funhouse" segment on Saturday Night Live.

Bix Pix has a history of taking on projects that expand the artform of stop-motion animation. Early examples of this include an art installation with stop-motion elements for Sam Zell, American businessman/media mogul and philanthropist, and the sand-based stop motion used in the music video for singer/songwriter Delta Goodrem's In This Life.

In 2006, Bix Pix relocated to Los Angeles, CA and began production on the television special Holidaze: The Christmas That Almost Didn't Happen, which featured the voices of Fred Savage and Fred Willard.[18] Their 2008 original web series, The Roadents,[19] aired on Sony Network's Crackle.com and won the 2009 Webby Award for Best Use of Special FX/Motion Graphics in a Video.

Bix Pix fabricated the puppets used in "Abed's Uncontrolable Christmas," the holiday episode of the television series Community in 2010.

In 2013, Bix Pix's original preschool series Tumble Leaf was part of the first round of television pilots ordered for the Amazon Video service. The series was officially picked up for a thirteen-episode season that premiered on Amazon Prime Video in 2014.

In its four seasons on Amazon, Tumble Leaf won sixteen Emmys (including three for Outstanding Pre-School Children's Animated Series), eight Parent's Choice Gold Awards, three consecutive Annie Awards for Best Animated TV Production for Preschool Children, a Special Jury Award from the 2014 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, a Peabody Nomination in 2016, and a 2018 BAFTA for Best International Pre-School production.

In 2016, Bix Pix produced "Bad Jubies," a stop-motion episode of Adventure Time written and directed by Kristen Lepore.[20]  The episode won an Emmy for Individual Achievement in Animation and an Annie Award for Best Animated TV Production for Children.

That same year, Bix Pix produced Moonlight Storytime, an original interstitial series created for HMH Publishing's Curious World app.  Animated primarily in paper-based stop-motion, the series was an official selection of the 2016 the Annecy International Animated Film Festival.

In 2017, the studio animated a sequence for the "Brunchsquatch" episode of Bob's Burgers.

In 2018, Bix Pix worked with the Google Doodle team to produce a special tribute to honor the 51st anniversary of the first taping of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood.  The Doodle received millions of views and trended on Twitter.  Joanne Rogers, Mr. Rogers' widow stated, "This stroll through the Neighborhood is delightful, and Fred's gentle kindness is beautifully captured in the Doodle.".[21]

In 2023, Bix Pix produced Shape Island, an Apple TV+ original series based on the best-selling "Shapes Trilogy" books by Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen. The series won a Special Jury Award at the 2023 Annecy International Film Festival and an Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Animation.[22]

Other Bix Pix clients have included: Nickelodeon, Disney, Sony, HBO, MAX, Amazon, Cartoon Network, Mattel, NBC, FOX, Hasbro, Jim Henson, ABC, Netflix, Apple & Warner Brothers.
